There is a business leader that needed to know what our Org ID is for some sort of innocuous task.  At first I was just going to send it to them via email, but then I got to wondering how protective I should be of our Org ID.  Is this something that, if delivered into the wrong hands, could potentially be a security threat to our system?

The Salesforce OrgID is pretty meaningless.   Some Salesforce Partner apps want it to authenticate access, but even then they still need a valid username/password to log in.  Often, a vendor will ask for it so they can more easily find your org's record in their installed licenses list.

Feel free to share it around.  Users don't need the org Id to log in, and having the org Id doesn't allow anyone to log in without a user account.
