We are a small company and I am trying to figure out how best to track the sale of 2 products.  We have a report that is ordered and fullfilled either in the same day or with a 24 hour turnaround(the two reports have two different price points).  I am struggling trying to figure out the best way to track these.  Under an account how do I log the report order when I receive it and then update the order when it is delivered, thus creating revenue? First is it better to use opportunities or products to track this?   If a company orders 5 a day do i have to create 5 new opportunities or products a day and update them when they are delivered?

Thanks in advance

It is tough to answer without knowing your full sales and fulfillment process. Typically when you want to track delivery / fulfillment / shipment of something you sell in Salesforce, you should be using Products.

Do you have to use an Opportunity for every order? Maybe. Again, hard to say how you "sell."

If you want to use Products, you have to have an Opportunity. Typically you would have a new Opportunities each order, with the Close Date representing the "Ship Date" of the order. That makes it easy to see how many orders you are getting per day, month, etc and you can still leverage Products.

If you don't want to make multiple Opportunities I suppose you could open one Opportunity, add a custom field to the Opportunity Product called "Ship Date" and just continue to add products, quantities and prices as needed.

You can then run Opportunity with Products reports and use the custom "Ship Date" field to know delivery.

There is also a feature called "Product Scheduling" with Salesforce, but I'd get comfortable with Opportunities and Products first.

    Hope that helps!
