When a date is entered in a field I want to check if that date is contained in a list of dates on another object

Users enter a leave request date and I want to check a custom object to see if this is a public holiday ?

    Ok Jeff - I have tried this and not succeeded - can you point me towards instructions on using flows.  I did get it to update one record.
