Create a Marker Layer for Sales Teams

Get Started with the Marker Layer Builder

In the previous step, you created a folder to store marker layers for your sales team. In this unit, you create a marker layer showing all accounts with open opportunities.

  • Markers will be displayed on the map as different colors based on industry.
  • Visible account fields include: Account Name, Phone Number, Website, and Annual Revenue.
  • Visible opportunity fields include: Name, Stage, and Close Date.

Select the Layer Type

Before you create a marker layer, you must select a folder to store it in. You are creating a marker layer for the sales team, so select the Sales Team subfolder you created in the previous unit.

  1. Click the Sales Team subfolder.
  2. Click New button.
  3. Select Marker Layer.
  4. Select the Account (Billing) base object.
  5. Click Continue.

Create a Marker Layer

It’s time to create the Marker Layer and add the required filters.

Be sure to always update the Marker Layer Name to reflect the data that will be displayed on the map.

Now, let’s add filters for the opportunity object.

  1. Select Cross Object Filters.
  2. Select Add cross object filter.
  3. Leave “with” in the first selection box.
  4. Search for and select Opportunity from the object search bar.
  5. Select Add Filter.
  6. For Name, select Stage.
  7. Select not equal to.
  8. Select Closed Won and Closed Lost from the list.

The Cross Object Filters option is highlighted. The Cross Object Filters AND statement is showing Account (Billing) with Opportunity (Opportunities). Stage not equal to Closed Won, Close Lost is displayed.

Customize Visible Fields

You’ve added all of the required filters, now it’s time to add the visible field requirements. When the marker layer is plotted, users can select pins on the map to view the following account fields: Account Name, Phone Number, Website, and Annual Revenue.

  1. Select the Tooltips tab.
  2. For Tooltip 1, select Account Name.
  3. For Tooltip 2, select Account Phone.

Once plotted, these fields will also appear in the Maps List View

  3. In the first column, select Name.
  4. Click Add column, select Stage.
  5. Click Add column, select Close Date.

The Related Lists tab is selected. The following opportunity columns are displayed, Name, Stage, and Close Date. The Display row shows the number 10 for records, ordered by Created Date, Ascending.
