I'm researching if Lightning Sync is a good fit for our organization. After reading the documentation, it only says that the user must have read and edit rights on Contact. Can someone clarify if this only specifically applies to object permissions (CRUD) or if it takes into account the setup of our OWD and sharing rules?

We have Public Read Only OWD on Contacts with a sharing rule that allows users to only edit Contacts which are not integrated with another system (that system is the system of record). I don't want Lightning Sync bypassing this security feature.

    Hi Lauren,

CRUD  on profile only enables user to access contacts.CRUD does not share records.

OWD and Sharing settings actually share records with users based on criteria or ownership.

Watch this youtube video for better understanding, watch complete series-:

Your OWD is Public Read Only , so user will be able to see all contacts, however user will not be able to edit contacts that he doesnt own.

Therefore to edit contacts through lightning sync user should have edit access on contact in salesforce.

Yo can create sharing rule to give edit  Read/Write access to users, who use outlook.

     Thanks,
