What is the best way to connect two Salesforce instances?

Our organization has two Salesforce instances used by different service groups each. We are planning to connect these instances. Is there any option other than the "Salesforce Connect"? Looks Salesforce connect is used for the classic version? Is there any upgraded connector on the same line? Please suggest.
