Hello Tableau Forum!

Here's the ask:

  • Create a view where one month column is colored
  • Expect the column to contain NULL values, meaning they do not exist in the data set
  • Colored column should be dynamic... for example, only the second month in the view should always be colored
  • The height (or number of rows) in the view may change, so a semi-transparent overlay won't work in this case
  • Bonus points if you can get the TITLE a different color, but hey-- I'm not picky! An overlay might work here.

Please refer to the attachment-- idea is here:

Thank you for any help!

@Laura Peterson  @Joon Kim  with your combined help I *may* have solved it (I'm still verifying). I could make an under-lay as Laura suggests, filtered just as the primary view, but with no dates. Instead, I'd have a placeholder value (like a space) to color the cell.

The number of rows in the underlay would be dynamic, but they would always be in sync with the sorted primary table.

Additionally, I could change the color of the header in the underlay to get the month a darker color. 😺 I'll see if it works!
