De-activated picklist option available for selection by user in Lightning but not Classic

I de-activated a picklist option and had assumed it would no longer be available to users for selection. It works as i'd expected to in classic, but not in lightning, where the de-activated option is still available. Is this a known bug, or am i missing a step of config?

    I am not having the same issue. The value is gone from picklist in salesforce classic, salesforce1 and lightning exp.

     

    I could find the deactivated value in the picklist only when the deactivated value is preselected before deactivation on a record that is being edited.
