Can anyone advise a simple apex trigger to populate a user lookup field?

Question

Workflows don't work because they only allow you to update a user lookup field to one specific user or queue.  We need to update a user lookup field (namely, case owner), with data that will be filled in based on a different user lookup field (data entry people filling in like a form).  Ideally, they will complete the form &, upon saving, the case owner would automatically flip over to = the "assigned to" field from the form (which are all fields on the same object).

Hi Dcard,   I also had the same requirement where I need to populate a custom case lookup field with the case owner whenever case owner changes. This solutioon might work. Thanks.
