Map Record Types for Net Zero Cloud

Record Types in Emissions Calculations

Net Zero Cloud uses record types to distinguish between types of stationary asset environmental sources, vehicle asset emissions sources, and building energy intensity datasets. The record types affect how Net Zero Cloud performs some of the calculations.

Configuring the record types is a two-step process. First, you create the record type on the object, and then you map the record type to the corresponding record type configuration.

Sam configures at least one record type for each source that NTO uses, skipping the record types he doesn’t need. For example, if NTO has no vehicles, then he doesn’t have to map vehicle assets. (Alas, NTO has vehicles so he can’t skip this step. Sam’s always been more of a runner than a skipper anyway!)

Net Zero Cloud includes a default page layout for the stationary asset environmental source, vehicle asset emissions source, and building energy intensity record types. Use the default page layouts for now, which you can change later if needed.

Let’s learn how Sam configures the record types for NTO’s emissions calculations.

Stationary Asset Mapping

Follow the steps to map stationary asset environmental source record types.

  1. From Setup, open Object Manager, and select Stationary Asset Environmental Source.
  2. In the object details, go to Record Types, and click New.
  3. Ensure that Master is selected for Existing Record Type.
  4. Enter Commercial Building for Record Type Label. The two recommended record type labels are Commercial Building and Data Center.
  5. For Record Type Name, retain the default value. It refers to the component when using the API and prevents naming conflicts.
  6. Ensure that Active is checked. This makes the record type active.
  7. In the table header, ensure Make Available is checked to make the record type available for all profiles.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Ensure Apply one layout to all profiles is selected.
  10. Save your changes.
  11. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Net Zero.
  12. Select Stationary Asset Environmental Source Record Type Configuration and click New Stationary Asset Environmental Source Record Type Config.
  13. Select Commercial Building for both the Record Type and Stationary Asset Type.
  14. Save your changes.

Optionally, repeat the steps, so that you have the Record Type Data Center mapped to the Stationary Asset Type Data Center as well.

Sam just accomplished one more task on the journey to configure Net Zero Cloud. With stationary assets in his rear view mirror, he sets his sights on vehicle assets.

Vehicle Asset Mapping

The process for mapping vehicle assets is similar to mapping stationary assets. In the next set of steps, you create your vehicle fleet assets using the following input data.

Record Type Label

Record Type Name

Vehicle Asset Type

TrucksTrucks

Fleet Vehicle

PlanesPlanes

Private Jet

  1. From Setup, open Object Manager, and select Vehicle Asset Emissions Source.
  2. In the object details, go to Record Types, and then click New.
  3. Select Master from Existing Record Type.
  4. Enter Trucks for the Record Type Label.
  5. For Record Type Name, retain the default value.
  6. Ensure that Active is selected.
  7. In the table header, ensure Make Available is checked to make the record type available for all profiles.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Ensure Apply one layout to all profiles is selected.
  10. Save your changes.
  11. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Net Zero.
  12. Select Vehicle Asset Emission Source Record Type Configuration and click New Vehicle Asset Emission Source Record Type Config.
  13. Select Trucks for the Record Type value, and Fleet Vehicle for the Vehicle Asset Type.
  14. Save your changes.

Optionally, repeat the steps, so that you have the Record Type Planes mapped to the Vehicle Asset Type Private Jet as well. Are you feeling wealthy yet?

Building Energy Intensity Mapping

Next, perform the Building Energy Intensity (BEI) mapping.

Note

Using BEI records for analysis based on your own consumption data is a common business practice. However, when first getting started many companies use external sources or standards bodies such as CBECS. It’s a quicker pathway until they can perform their own analysis based on their own data.

  1. From Setup, open Object Manager, and select Building Energy Intensity.
  2. In the object details, go to Record Types, and click New.
  3. Ensure that Master is selected for Existing Record Type.
  4. Enter Building Energy Intensity for the Record Type Label. The recommended labels follow:
    • Building Energy Intensity: Use this for records that are created by computing average intensities based on your energy consumption data.
    • Regional Building Energy Intensity: Use this for data that is obtained from external sources or standards bodies, such as the Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS).
  5. For Record Type Name, retain the default value.
  6. Ensure that Active is checked.
  7. In the table header, ensure Make Available is checked to make the record type available for all profiles.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Ensure Apply one layout to all profiles is selected.
  10. Save your changes.
  11. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Net Zero.
  12. Select Building Energy Intensity Record Type Configuration and click New Building Energy Intensity Record Type Config.
  13. Select Building Energy Intensity for the Record Type value, then select Building Energy Intensity for Building Energy Intensity Type.
  14. Save your changes.

Optionally, repeat the steps for Regional Building Energy Intensity.

NTO’s emissions sources and building energy intensity record types are configured, and Sam’s ready to load emissions factors datasets for calculating carbon emissions.
