Check Into the Sillicorn Valley Inn

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Describe the pranks and tricks happening at Sillicorn Valley Inn.
  • Set up and view your Sillicorn Valley Inn org.

Meet Cob Webber’s Ghost

After a long day of driving, you park your car at Sillicorn Valley Inn and are greeted by your good friend and Con-scari-erge, Astro. Astro, always ready for fun, is dressed for the Halloween festivities in a pumpkin helmet and skeleton jumper. The Inn is a large mansion-turned-hotel surrounded by festival grounds and corn fields.

You are the #1 ghost mitigator in the area, and your speciality is fixing the problems caused by ghosts. For the past few years, you’ve been called every fall season to help manage a particular ghost who likes to play tricks on the Sillicorn Valley Inn staff and guests. This October appears to be no different.

The moonlit Sillicorn Valley Inn with the festival grounds and a cemetery nearby.

The ghost was a gentleman known as Cob Webber. Cob has been a resident in the graveyard on the grounds of the Inn for several decades. But before that, he owned a farm nearby and spent many evenings at the Inn sitting in a rocking chair on the porch, telling jokes and stories to guests and anyone who would listen. He made quite the impression on people with his quick wit, and the sparkle in his eyes.

After Cob moved into the graveyard, he continued to make his presence known around the Inn by playing little tricks and pranks. His early antics were only detectable by the staff if they were really paying attention, like the rocking chair he used to sit in quietly creaking when no one was near it, or a curtain waving out of an upstairs room on a windless afternoon.

As word spread about the ghost’s hijinks, the extra attention made him even more mischievous. Over time, his shenanigans have become more spirited, shall we say, and sometimes even disruptive. This year, Cob’s ghost has been particularly feisty. He’s been short-sheeting beds, buttering doorknobs, and changing TV channels for days, and Astro and the staff are already exhausted from remedying Cob’s pranks so the guests can enjoy their stay.

At a breaking point, Astro needs help managing the havoc in order to keep the Inn running smoothly. Hence, why you are here. It’s time to get to work and show Cob who’s in charge!

Sign Up for a Sillicorn Valley Inn Org

Astro takes you to the computer in the office of the Inn so you can configure your newest tool in ghost mitigation, Employee Agents, on the hotel’s CRM. Here are the instructions to set up your org.

  1. Sign up for a special Sillicorn Valley Inn Developer Edition org.
  2. Fill out the form:
    • For Email, enter an active email address.
    • For Username, enter a username that looks like an email address and is unique, but it doesn't need to be a valid email account (for example, yourname@example.com).
  3. After you fill out the form, click Sign me up. A confirmation message appears.
  4. When you receive the activation email (this might take a few minutes), open it and click Verify Account.
