The Guests Arrive

It’s the night of the Trailhead 10th Anniversary Halloween party. Max climbs the big stone steps to the back patio of Flow Manor, where the event is in full swing. His ice cream sandwich costume makes it a little hard to take full strides. Max finds a refreshment and looks around the party. He flashes his big grin at all of the guests in their fun costumes. His friends Codey and Ruth, who tower above the other guests, wave to him from the other side of the patio. Max makes his way through the crowd to join them and a big group of his favorite friends. They all hug and giggle as they look at each other’s costumes.

Ruth is rocking her ’80s dance club costume. Cloudy is dressed as the solar system with planets and moons bobbing all around her. Codey looks dashing and a little formal in his velvety vampire suit. Brandy is dressed as a witch with a black hat poking up between her pointy ears. Appy does a little dance in her shark costume. And Einstein is just dressed as himself, his wild hair blowing in all different directions whenever a breeze rolls in. The group of friends have only spent a few minutes catching up when the host comes over and asks if they’d like to take a turn in the escape room. They absolutely love escape rooms and excitedly follow the host inside the big house.

Let’s Get This Party Started

The friends are led through a maze of halls to a parlor where a cozy fire crackles and books line the walls. They settle around the room while their host smiles at them all and carefully explains what they need to do.

“You need to find clues here in this parlor,” she says. “Once you find all of the clues in this room, you make your way to the dining room. Once you find all of the clues in the dining room, you explore a flow. You use some of the clues to change the flow, and you use other clues in the flow to decipher a four-word code phrase. That phrase is the key to exiting the escape room and rejoining the party! You enter that phrase into a computer in the control room to get back to the festivities. Got it?”

The friends give each other nervous glances and nod.

“Excellent!” says the host. “Let me start you off with a hint. To work with the flow in this challenge, follow the steps I’ve outlined and create a brand-new Trailhead Playground. Install a package and cipher, then change the theme of the playground to a Halloween theme. Once you complete these steps, you’re ready to start finding clues!” The host hands Brandy a piece of paper with a list of steps.

Create a Trailhead Playground and Install a Package

Codey pulls a small laptop out of his cape, and the friends smile, amused, but not surprised.

Brandy says, “The first step is to scroll to the bottom of the page and click Create Playground.”

Note

Yes, we really mean create a brand-new Trailhead playground! If you use an existing org or playground, you can run into problems completing the challenges.

The friends talk among themselves for a few minutes while the playground is created.

“Now we have to launch the playground.” says Ruth. “Scroll back to the bottom of the page, and click Launch.”

“Install the package is next,” Cloudy says, leaning over the laptop. “Find the tab in your playground labeled Install a Package, and click it!” Here are the steps to follow along.

  1. Paste 04tbm0000003K8f into the Package ID field. This is the package ID where we find the flow we need to exit the escape room.
  2. Click Install.
  3. Select Install for All Users, then click Install.
  4. Then, when the package installation is complete, click Done.
Note

If you don’t see the Install a Package tab, open the App Launcher, find Playground Starter, and follow the steps.

Ruth is following along in the list of steps. “Next, we need to load some cipher data that we’ll use to decipher the code,” she says. “Here’s how.”

  1. Click the App Launcher :"” and search for and select Cipher Settings.
  2. Click Load Escape Data.

“Let me update the playground theme to the Halloween theme!” exclaims Cloudy.

“OK,” says Codey, stepping aside. “I’ll tell you how to do it.”

  1. Click Setup , then click Setup.
  2. In the Quick Find box, type themes. Then click Themes and Branding.
  3. Click the dropdown arrow to the right of Trick or Trailhead, and select Activate.

The friends gather close and oooh and ahhh at the Halloween theme that appears in their new Trailhead playground org. “OK!” says Max, “Let’s check our work so we can start looking for clues!”

Click Check Challenge to Earn 1000 Points to check that the playground is set up correctly.
