Opportunity split - can revenue split type be turned off?

We are researching whether to turn on team selling and begin to use Opportunity Splits.  From reading, however, I don't think the revenue split that comes by default will work for us because of the fact that 1. you cannot remove the opportunity owner 2. the total must add up to 100%.  Ideally for some opportunites in our organization our split works purely in the overlay fashion.  

 

Does anyone know what my options are?  Ideally we'd like to use the Opportunity Splits.

    No, you can't change the checkbox for default types. But you can deactivate default split types and create a new one without the checkbox checked. No, you can't change the checkbox for default types. But you can deactivate default split types and create a new one without the checkbox checked.
