Is there any way to mass update the field type on a custom object? We have a custom object and most of the fields were built out originally as "Text Area" fields initially. I'd like them to all be "Long Text Area" fields instead. Instead of going one by one and updating the field types, is there any way to update them all at once?

Unless you have literally 100's of fields, it will be quicker and more accurate to do it through the UI. The alternative is to use workbench or other metadata API tool to redefine the object and re-deploy the updated definition.
