Hi folks,

I know I must be missing something simple, but not sure what it is.

1)  Have a custom object "Object" - OWD for this object is Private/Private

2)  Have a criteria-based sharing rule in place that allows Read access to users within a certain role hiercarchy

3)  So take "User1"... his role allows him to see the records in "Object" that meet the sharing rule setting (no issues)

4)  By the way, his profile also has Read access to the "Object"

5)  Now we have a small group of these users that should also have Edit priviledges

6)  So we have a Permission Set that allows Edit capability for this "Object"

The issue is that even with this Permission Set assigned, users still get the "Insufficient Priviledges" when they click the Edit button on a record.  Yes, they can access the records just fine, and there is even the "Edit" button on their default layout, but upon clicking it, the "Insufficient Priviledges" comes up

I can't seem to figure this out, as my thought process is:

OWD for "Object" (Private) --> Sharing Rule allows Read (for some records) --> Permission Set allows Edit (but it doesn't)

Am I missing something?

I don't want to enable "Modify All" in the permission sets for this "Object", as that would then nullify the earlier sharing rule.

Thanks!

yeah.. but then I guess that defeats the whole purpose and benefit of using a permission set
