Build Trust and Responsible AI as Part of the 1-1-1 Model

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Explain what responsible AI means in the context of the 1-1-1 model.
  • Identify why trust, transparency, and accountability matter when using AI for business and social impact.
  • Explore ways your company can apply responsible AI principles to create positive change.

Why Responsible AI Matters

Artificial Intelligence is transforming how we work, live, and connect. Just like the 1-1-1 model helps businesses give back to their communities, responsible AI ensures that innovation benefits everyone.

When AI is designed and used responsibly, it builds trust with employees, customers, and society. When it isn’t, it can reinforce harmful biases, spread misinformation, or harm vulnerable communities.

At Salesforce, trust is our #1 value. That means building AI systems that are ethical, transparent, and accountable. But responsible AI isn’t just about risk management—it’s also about using AI technology to scale positive outcomes.

Principles of Responsible AI

Salesforce follows five guiding principles of trusted AI:

  • Accuracy: Deliver reliable and relevant results.
  • Safety: Protect users from harm.
  • Transparency: Be clear about how AI works and is used.
  • Empowerment: Design AI that helps people, not replaces them.
  • Sustainability: Build AI that serves both people and the planet.

Your company can adopt similar principles to make sure AI aligns with your values and your 1-1-1 commitments.

Responsible AI and the 1-1-1 Model

The 1-1-1 model inspires companies to pledge 1% of equity, product, and time to drive impact. Responsible AI takes that same spirit of positive impact and applies it to the way we build and deploy technology.

Here are some ways they can connect:

  • 1% of Equity or Profit: Companies can fund research or nonprofit initiatives that advance ethical AI, digital literacy, nonprofit data governance and infrastructure, or community access to technology.
  • 1% of Time: Companies can encourage employees to volunteer their expertise to help nonprofits and schools use AI responsibly or train employees to work with nonprofits to develop sustainable and human-centered AI applications.
  • 1% of Product: Companies can offer their next-gen AI products to mission-driven organizations—while ensuring they’re safe, fair, and transparent.

Salesforce Accelerator—Agents for Impact: A 1-1-1 Example

The Salesforce Accelerator—Agents for Impact initiative equips nonprofits with funding, cutting-edge technology, and pro bono expertise to confidently create customized AI agent solutions. This is the 1-1-1 model in action, and it has accelerated incredible solutions to date. For example:

  • Good360 is routing disaster recovery donations 3x faster with Agentforce, so they can help disaster survivors faster.
  • College Possible is serving 4x more students with Agentforce, helping them get into college and succeed.
  • Groundswell is using Agentforce to help 30,000 households save money while advancing energy equality.

As AI agents reshape our world, we’re proud to empower organizations to unlock new opportunities for growth, drive meaningful change, and support their communities at an unprecedented scale.

Reflection

Think about your own organization.

  • How are you currently using AI in your business or social impact work?
  • Where could responsible AI practices make your products, services, or community commitments stronger?
  • What small step could you take today to bring responsible AI into your 1-1-1 journey?

Sum It Up

Responsible AI is all about making sure that innovation reflects your values, earns trust, and drives positive impact just like the 1-1-1 model.
