Create a Forecast Amount Report

You’ve set up everything Ian needs so that he can view and use forecast data to predict his sales accurately and manage his international sales team better. But who doesn’t love a report? Build a report to graphically represent Ian’s adjusted forecast.

Create a Custom Report Type

Before you start on the report, create a custom report type to show all forecasting quotas with or without related forecasting items.

  1. From Setup, enter reports in Quick Find, and then click Report Types.
  2. Click Continue.
  3. Click New Custom Report Type, and enter the details:

    Description
    Enter This report shows all forecasting quotas with or without related forecasting items.

    Select Forecasts
    Deployment Status
    Select Deployed
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click (Click to relate another object).
  6. Click the Select Object menu and select Forecasting Items.
  7. Select "A" records may or may not have related "B" records.
  8. Click Save.

Create the Report

Next, create the report that Ian will use.

  1. From the Sales app, click the Reports tab.
  2. Click New Report.
  3. In the left column, select Forecasts.
  4. In the right column, select Forecasting Quotas w/wo Forecasting Items.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Click the Add Column field, and under the Forecasting Quotas category, select Start Date.
  7. Click the Add Column field, and under the Forecasting Items category, select Forecast Category.
  8. Click the Add Column field, and under the Forecasting Items category, select Forecast Amount.
  9. Select the Update Preview Automatically button to view a preview of the columns you just added.

  10. In the Start Date column, click Column menu icon and select Group Rows by This Field.
  11. In the Start Date column, click Column menu icon and select Group Date By …, and then select Fiscal Quarter.
  12. In the Forecast Category column, click Column menu icon and select Group Columns by This Field.
  13. Click Filters.
  14. Click the Show Me field and select My direct reports’ forecasting quotas.
  15. Click Apply.
  16. Click the Created Date field.
  17. Click the Date field, and under the Forecasting Quotas category, select Start Date.
  18. Click the Range field, and under Fiscal Quarter, select Current and Next 3 FQ.
  19. Click Apply.
  20. At the bottom of the page, deselect Row Counts and Detail Rows.

Now that the initial report structure is built, add a filter to include only the Opportunity Revenue forecast type.

  1. Click Add filter and select Forecasting Type: API Name.
  2. Ensure Operator is set to equals.
  3. In the empty field below, type OpportunityRevenue and click Apply.

Next, add a chart to the report, allowing Ian and his team to see the data they need at a glance.

  1. Click Add Chart.
  2. Click Chart Properties icon. to open chart properties.
  3. Click Stacked Column.
  4. Complete the Chart Attributes:

    Field
    Details/Action
    Chart Title
    Enter Forecast by Category
    X-Axis
    Select Start Date
    Y-Axis
    Select Sum of Forecast Amount
    Stack By
    Select Forecast Category

Finally, run and save the report.

  1. Click Save & Run.
  2. For the Report Name, enter Forecast by Category.
  3. For Description, enter What is the forecast by category?
  4. Click Select Folder.
  5. Click New Folder.
  6. For Folder Label, enter Global Sales Reports.
  7. Press the Tab key to create the default Folder Unique Name and click Save.
  8. Ensure Global Sales Reports is selected and click Select Folder.
  9. Click Save.
