Add More Forecast Types

Up to this point, Ian can add and view forecasts using two methods, Opportunity Revenue and Opportunity Quantity. However, by adding two more forecast types, Ian can be more precise in predicting sales. Add these additional forecast types. 

Add a Forecast Type for Product Families (Revenue)

Start by adding a forecast type that allows Ian and his team to view revenue forecast separately for each product family.

  1. From Setup, enter forecasts in Quick Find, and then select Forecasts Settings.
  2. Click Add another forecast type and set the following:

    Setting Name
    Details/Action
    Forecast Type
    Select Product Families
    Forecast Measurement
    Select Revenue
  3. From Available Product Families, add Solar Panels - Ground Mounted and Service Package - Solar Panel Cleaning to Selected Product Families.
  4. From Available Columns, add the following to Selected Columns (some or all may already be added):

    Account Name
    Amount
    Close Date
    Forecast Category
    Forecasted Amount
    Opportunity Name
    Owner Full Name
    Probability (%)
    Stage
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Save.

Verify that the forecast displays the revenue forecast for each product family for Alek Wozniak.

  1. From the Sales app, click the Forecasts tab.
  2. Click Display Settings menu and select Product Family Revenue.
  3. Click display settings again and deselect Show Quota Column.
  4. Click display settings again and deselect Show Quota % Attainment.
  5. From the View my forecasts menu, search for Alek Wozniak and select his name.
  6. Next to the current FQ, click Expand arrow to view the products and forecasts. You should see the forecasts arranged by two product families: Solar Panels - Ground Mounted and Service Package - Solar Panel Cleaning.

Add a Forecast Type for Product Families (Quantity)

Next, add a forecast type that allows Ian and his team to view quantity forecast separately for each product family.

  1. From Setup, enter forecast in Quick Find, and then select Forecasts Settings.
  2. Click Add another forecast type and configure the settings.

    Setting Name
    Selection
    Forecast Type
    Select Product Families
    Forecast Measurement
    Select Quantity
  3. From Available Product Families, add Solar Panels - Ground Mounted and Service Package – Solar Panel Cleaning to Selected Product Families if they are not already displayed there.
  4. From Available Columns, add the following to Selected Columns. (Some or all may already be added.)

    Opportunity Name
    Account Name
    Quantity
    Close Date
    Stage
    Probability (%)
    Forecast Category
    Owner Full Name
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Save.

Verify that the forecast displays the quantity forecast for each product family for Alek Wozniak.

  1. From the Sales app, click the Forecasts tab.
  2. Click Display Settings menu and select Product Family Quantity.
  3. Next to the current FQ, click Expand arrowto view the forecasts. You should see the quantity forecasts arranged by two product families, Solar Panels - Ground Mounted and Service Package - Solar Panel Cleaning.

You’re done setting up and creating forecast views. Now forecasting can be done easily from one tool and without confusing spreadsheets. But there’s one more thing to do to make it all come together for Ursa Major Solar’s international sales team—create a forecast report!
