Learning Objectives

In this project, you’ll:
  • Load and filter local Salesforce data with a dataflow.
  • Connect to Salesforce data in a remote org using a connection.
  • Load remote Salesforce data with data sync.
  • Combine data from different sources in a dataflow.
  • Enhance and clean data with a recipe.

Make sure that you’ve completed the Analytics Data Integration Basics module before you start this project. That module introduces you to the concepts and tools you need in this project. Also, to complete the steps outlined here, use a Tableau CRM-supported browser.

Your Mission

You’re the Salesforce admin at DTC Electronics. You've mastered the basics of integrating data in Tableau CRM, from creating a dataflow to load your Salesforce data and uploading external CSV data to combining data in a recipe.

But now things are heating up. Your VP of North America Sales wants to start tracking combined US and Canada sales. No problem, you think. Until you realize that the sales team in Canada uses a different Salesforce org, in a different currency, and with different opportunity stages. Your mission in this project is to combine your US and Canada sales data into a single dataset with all values in US dollars, available for use in your US Salesforce org.

Sign Up for a Tableau CRM Developer Edition Org

Before you work through this Trailhead project, sign up for a free Tableau CRM-enabled Developer Edition org. This org is a safe environment where you can practice the skills you’re learning. Unlike the regular Developer Edition org, the Tableau CRM-enabled one comes with a limited Analytics platform license and contains sample data required for this project.

In this project, this org represents your DTC Electronics US org. You connect this org to Trailhead and do most of the work in it. Later in this step, you set up an org to represent your DTC Electronics Canada org. You use this second org only as a data source to connect to. Apart from a bit of setup, you won’t do any work in the Canada org.

Important: Even if you already have a Tableau CRM-enabled Developer Edition org, sign up for a new one. The older orgs don’t get recently released features—signing up for a new one ensures that you get the latest and greatest. In some cases, you can’t complete the challenges without the new features.

Signed up? Great! Now, it’s time to connect your new org to Trailhead. If you’ve already done this, feel free to skip to the next section in this step.

  1. Make sure you're logged in to your Trailhead account. To verify, look in the top right corner of this page. You should see your name. If you see the Login option, click it to log in.
  2. In the Challenge section at the bottom of this page, select Connect Org from the Trailhead Playground picklist. We need you to log in so we can verify your work as you progress through this Trailhead project.
  3. On the login screen, enter the username and password for the Developer Edition you just set up.
  4. At the Allow Access? screen, click Allow.
  5. At the Want to connect this org for hands-on challenges? screen, click Yes! Save it. You are redirected back to the challenge page and ready to use your new Developer Edition to earn this badge.

If you sign up for this DE org outside of the U.S., the org will use your local currency. Because this Trailhead project assumes the currency of this org is U.S. dollars, let's first verify that your org has the expected currency.

  1. If you haven't already done so, log in to your Developer Edition org.
  2. In Setup, enter company in the Quick Find box.
  3. In the results, click Company Information.
  4. Verify that English (United States) - USD is selected next to Currency Locale.
  5. If it's not, click Edit and select it.
  6. If you updated the currency, click Save and then click OK to confirm the change.

Sign Up for a Tableau CRM Developer Edition Org for Your Canada Data

In this project, you’re going to be connecting to your Canada data in a remote org. You use another Developer Edition org for this. To distinguish the data from the data in your US org, you make a few changes, such as changing the currency and the opportunity stages.

First, sign up for a new org and change the currency.

  1. Sign up for another Developer Edition org here: Use the same username that you used for the US org, but replace .com with .ca. For example:
  2. Open the new Welcome to Salesforce email in your inbox, and click Verify Account.
  3. Set up your password and security question. Tip: Make a note of your username and password. You need it later when you create a connection to this org.
  4. In Setup, enter company in the Quick Find box.
  5. In the results, click Company Information.
  6. Click Edit.
  7. Under Currency Settings, select English (Canada) - CAD from the Currency Locale picklist.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Click OK to confirm the change.

Next, change a couple of the opportunity stages to reflect your Canadian sales pipeline.

  1. Click the Object Manager tab.
  2. In the Label column, click Opportunity.
  3. In the left panel, click Fields & Relationships.
  4. In the Field Label column, click Stage.
  5. In the Opportunity Stages Picklist Values section, click New.
  6. Complete these fields.
    1. Stage Name: ValueProposition
    2. Probability: 50
  7. Click Save & New, and complete these fields.
    1. Stage Name: Negotiation & Review
    2. Probability: 90
    3. Forecast Category: Commit
  8. Click Save.
  9. In the Action column, click Del next to Value Proposition and then click OK.
  10. From the Replace value on records with picklist, select ValueProposition.
  11. Click Save.
  12. In the Action column, click Del next to Negotiation/Review and then click OK.
  13. From the Replace value on records with picklist, select Negotiation & Review.
  14. Click Save.

Great! Now you have a remote org with amounts in Canadian dollars and slightly different opportunity stages. This gives you something to practice with when you’re preparing data later.

But there’s one more thing to do. When you connect to a remote org for the first time, you need to provide a security token for the org that you’re connecting to. So let’s grab this from the Canada org before you log out.

  1. In the top-right corner of the org, click the View Profile button and then click SettingsScreenshot of view profile options when view profile icon is clicked
  2. In the panel on the left, click Reset My Security Token.
  3. Click Reset Security Token. Your new security token is emailed to you. Keep it safe. You need it later.
  4. In the top-right corner of the org, click the View Profile button and then click Log Out.

To verify your work at the end of this unit, ensure that you are signed in to your US org, not your Canada org.
