Create a Global Picklist

All cats in Muenzpraeger's Home for Wayward Cats are classified by breed. And when people sign up as potential adopters, they say which cat breeds they’re interested in. Since we use the same breed values for both the Cat object and the Interested Person object, let’s create a global picklist to manage this information.

Create a Global Picklist

  1. From the Home tab in Setup, enter Picklist in the Quick Find box and select Picklist Value Sets.
  2. Click New.
  3. Fill in the details.
    • Label: Cat Breed
    • Name: Cat_Breed
    • Values (one per line): Bengal, Sphynx, British Shorthair
  4. Click Save.

Assign the Picklist to the Custom Objects

  1. From the Object Manager in Setup, click Cat.
  2. Click Fields & Relationships, then click New.
  3. Choose Picklist as the field type and click Next.
  4. Fill in the details.
    • Field Label: Cat Breed
    • Values: Use global picklist value set (select Cat Breed in the dropdown)
    • Field Name: Cat_Breed
  5. Click Next, Next, and then Save.
  6. From the Object Manager, click Interested Person.
  7. Click Fields & Relationships, then click New.
  8. Choose Picklist (Multi-Select) as the field type and click Next.
  9. Fill in the details.
    • Field Label: Cat Breed
    • Values: Use global picklist value set (select Cat Breed in the dropdown)
    • Field Name: Cat_Breed
  10. Click Next, Next, and then Save.

Nice work. Our picklists are all set up, and the volunteers at Muenzpraeger's Home for Wayward Cats can start classifying cats by breed. The only problem is that the volunteers are very busy, caring for cats. Maybe we can get Einstein Vision to do the classifying for them? Yes, we can do that. Read on to find out how.
