Create a Workspace

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Create and manage workspaces.
  • Add and manage members.
  • Manage and authorize social accounts.

Create and Manage a Workspace

Now that you understand what a workspace is and how permissions are organized in Social Studio, let’s create a workspace. You’ll most likely need multiple workspaces in your account—you can use workspaces to separate business units, and organize by geography or social marketing campaign.

The first time you visit the Workspaces tab, a setup guide will help you customize your workspace. From this walkthrough you enter basic information about your workspace, add social accounts, topic profiles, and workspace members. In case you need to make adjustments, you can revisit these settings from the summary screen of your created workspace.

Note

Note

You need workspace admin permissions to perform this function. If you are not an admin, contact the workspace admin to grant permissions.

Practice with the Trailhead Simulator

The marketing team at Northern Trail Outfitters (NTO), a hiking and camping retailer, is excited to get started using Social Studio. They are ready to create a workspace and add members. Let’s follow along using the Trailhead Simulator to see how NTO creates a workspace, links a social account, and adds users in their Social Studio account.

Get to Know the Trailhead Simulator

Before you start, here are a few things you should know about the Trailhead Simulator. The Trailhead Simulator is different from a Trailhead Playground. The simulator doesn’t store your progress. If you close your browser, the simulation starts from the beginning each time you launch it. Use the navigation controls at the bottom of the simulator to get back to where you left off. For the best experience, please view the Trailhead Simulator on a laptop or desktop computer.

Also note: Not everything is clickable in the simulator, just the steps that are laid out below. When you click in the wrong spot, highlighting shows you where to click.
Content Builder is highlighted in the simulator, while the rest of the screen is darkened to show you where to click next.

Create a Workspace

The marketing team at NTO wants to create a workspace, then add social profiles and a user. Let’s follow along in the Trailhead Simulator.

  1. Launch the Trailhead Simulator and click Begin.
  2. From the Social Studio App bar, click Social Studio.
  3. Click + Create Workspace.
  4. In the Workspace Name, type Northern Trail Outfitters Europe. Press Enter or Return.
  5. In the Workspace Description, type NTO Europe Workspace. Press Enter or Return.

Now let’s personalize the workspace by adding a logo.

  1. Click Upload Workspace Photo.
  2. Select the NTO Europe Logo.jpg file, then click Open.
  3. Click Next.

Now let’s add in a social account and a topic profile.

  1. In the Social Accounts section, select NTO Announcements.
  2. Click Next.
  3. In the Add Topics Profile section, select NTO Topic.
  4. Click Next.

Add a Member

Now let’s add a user, or a member of the workspace.

  1. In the Add Workspace Members section, select Anne Smith.
  2. Click the Limited Member dropdown menu next to Anne’s name, then select Contributor.
  3. Click Next, then click Finish.

Great job! You helped the NTO team create a workspace and add a member. In the next unit, we cover another key aspect of the Social Studio workspace—topic profile creation.
