Use Dynamic Lists in Pardot Lightning App

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Define dynamic lists.
  • Create a dynamic list.

Dynamic Lists

Dynamic lists are “smart” lists that automatically add or remove prospects based on the criteria you set up. They’re easy to set up and they maintain themselves, which makes them a great choice for building lists around information that changes frequently.

That said, not every list is required to be dynamic. You still use static lists in your Pardot account. Use a static list when you have no reason to remove prospects, such as a list of all prospects who complete your Contact Us form. You can create this type of list with an automation rule or a completion action. Prospects who complete the form match the rule once and are added to the list.

Leung wants to ensure her automated email programs are not overwhelming prospects with too many emails in a designated time period. Leung plans to create a list that automatically adds prospects who’ve been emailed at least two times in the past week, and then removes them once they’ve had a little break.

Let’s see how Leung can build this dynamic list to check her prospects’ activity history for emails they’ve received.

  1. Click Prospects | Segmentation | Segmentation Lists.
  2. Click +Add List.
  3. Enter Suppression List: Emailed >2 times in past week for the name.
  4. Click Dynamic List.
  5. Click Set Rules.
  6. Click +Add new rule.
  7. Select Prospect has been emailed :: 2 :: times in :: 7 :: days.
  8. Click Preview. Click Preview matches if you would like to view matches.
  9. Click Run Rules.
  10. Click Ok in prompt.

Now that you’ve learned what a dynamic list is and how to create one, let’s move on to the next unit and review how to choose the right tool for each automated task in your lead management strategy.
