Sign Up for a Developer Edition Org with Financial Services Cloud

To complete this module, you need a special Developer Edition org that contains Financial Services Cloud and our sample data. Get the free Developer Edition and connect it to Trailhead now so you can follow along and complete the hands-on challenge in this unit. Note that this Developer Edition is designed to work with the challenges in this badge, and may not work for other badges. Always check that you’re using the Trailhead Playground or special Developer Edition org that we recommend.

  1. Sign up for a free Developer Edition org with Financial Services Cloud.
  2. Fill out the form.
    1. For Email, enter an active email address.
    2. For Username, enter a username that looks like an email address and is unique, but it doesn't need to be a valid email account (for example, yourname@fsc4evah.com).
  1. After you fill out the form, click Sign me up. A confirmation message appears.
  2. When you receive the activation email (this might take a few minutes), open it and click Verify Account.
  3. Complete your registration by setting your password and challenge question. Tip: Write down your username, password, and login URL for easy access later.
  4. You are logged in to your Developer Edition.

Now connect your new Developer Edition org to Trailhead.

  1. Make sure you're logged in to your Trailhead account.
  2. In the Challenge section at the bottom of this page, click the playground name and then click Connect Org.
  3. On the login screen, enter the username and password for the Developer Edition you just set up.
  4. On the Allow Access? screen, click Allow.
  5. On the Want to connect this org for hands-on challenges? screen, click Yes! Save it. You are redirected back to the challenge page and ready to use your new Developer Edition to earn this badge.

Now that you have a Financial Services Cloud-enabled org, you’re ready to try out the steps in this unit and complete the challenge. Note that we don't include example dashboards in the special Developer Edition org.

View Client Data in Reports and Dashboards

It’s important to understand each client’s needs. But it’s also vital to understand the needs of all your clients as a group. A good way to do that is to use reports and dashboards to answer questions about all your clients. For example, if your goal is to engage more with clients, you have questions like the following.

  • What clients have upcoming required minimum distributions (RMDs) or birthdays?
  • What clients haven’t I contacted in a while?
  • What clients have assets managed by another institution (held away) I can turn into opportunities?

Reports and dashboards can answer these questions. A report is a list of records that meet the criteria you define. The list can be displayed as rows and columns or in a visual chart. An example report is Conversion Percentage of Referrals Made. This report answers specific questions like, What percentage of my referrals convert to opportunities? To view reports, select Reports from the navigation bar.

Dashboards display data in graphical components arranged in, well, dashboards. Dashboard components are built out of reports and provide a quick look at many key metrics and trends. You can use several reports in a single dashboard. For example, create a dashboard to display several reports with a common theme, like referral performance.

Note

Dashboards come in two flavors:

  • Basic dashboards that are available in Salesforce apps such as Wealth Management or Retail Banking Console
  • Advanced dashboards powered by CRM Analytics. These dashboards are available in Analytics Studio. Think of them as your own personal data scientists to help you make informed decisions about how to cater to your clients and make them successful. You can take action—log a call, task, or event—in the context of all the clients in your book of business from these advanced dashboards.

Access to dashboards in your org depends on your organization's entitlements and the user permissions set up by your administrator.

Let’s look at Kotori’s dashboards in Analytics Studio to get a better idea of how they work. Here’s what she does to view one of her dashboards.

  1. From App launcher, find and select Analytics Studio.
  2. Under Browse, click All Items and select Dashboards. (You won't see any dashboards in the special Developer Edition org.)
  3. Select Activities.

The Activities dashboard displaying past and upcoming client interactions

Kotori notices that some clients haven’t been contacted in months. She visits each client profile to make sure that there are no outstanding or upcoming issues for those clients. From the dashboard, Kotori can also perform a host of contextual activities for any client by pulling down the menu next to their name. She can create a new task or event to remind herself, jot down some quick client notes, and more.

Look around at your dashboards. They’re a powerful tool to help you see what’s going on in your business. You can get good answers to business questions there. Sometimes, dashboards even answer questions you didn’t know that you had.

Create a Basic Dashboard

Kotori uses the built-in basic dashboards often, and today she’s going to create her own dashboard. Her financial advisors have told her they’d like to focus on bringing held away assets in-house this month. She decides to create a dashboard to uncover held away assets and track them as her advisors work on them. Here’s what she does in the Wealth Management app.

  1. From App launcher, find and select Wealth Management.
  2. Select Dashboards in the navigation bar.
  3. Click New Dashboard.
  4. Name the dashboard Held Away Assets - Overview.
  5. Click Create.
  6. Click + Widget and then click Chart or Table.
  7. Choose All Reports.
  8. Search for and select Client Held Away Assets and then click Select.
  9. Choose Horizontal Bar Chart.
  10. Click Add.
  11. Click Save.

The new dashboard appears on Kotori’s list of dashboards. She expects her financial advisors to give her suggestions on information to add to the dashboard as the project progresses. But for now, it’s a good start.

You’ve learned about the power of dashboards and reports to answer business questions. If you can’t find a dashboard that meets your needs, create your own.

This module has focused on growing your client list and revenue by tapping the power of referrals. You’ve also learned how to use dashboards to uncover trends and opportunities within your company. Now you’re ready to take those skills and expand your own book of business.

More Dashboards in Analytics Studio
