Maintain Your Administrator Certification for Spring '21

Salesforce Certification

Salesforce introduced a ton of great feature enhancements over the past year (Summer '20, Winter '21, and Spring '21). Let’s take a look at some of the more important ones.

Note

While anyone can earn this badge, this module is designed for those who hold the Salesforce Administrator certification.

Send Rich Text Emails from Your Flow Using a Send Email Action (Spring '21)

What’s new?

Send an email in rich text format by using a Send Email action within a Flow. 

Why was this added?

Rich text format gives you more options when you send an email from a flow. Now you can include bullets, bold or italicize text, and embed images. Any formatting you can apply in a rich text template or a display text component, you can also apply to your email body. Previously, only plain text was available for Send Email actions, and you had to use an email alert to send a rich text email. 

How does it work?

Drag an Action element onto the canvas. In the Action field, enter Email, and select Send Email. By default, flow emails are sent in plain text. To send the body in rich text, include Rich-Text-Formatted Body, and set it to true.

Note

We recommend writing your email body in a text template, and then referencing it in the Send Email action. That way, you have access to the formatting tools and have the space to write more than one line. To add a table or other advanced markup to your email, create a text template. In rich text mode, paste in the table. Or in plain text mode, write the HTML for your table and then switch to rich text mode to render it properly.

Work Through Lists with Ease Using Split View for Standard Navigation (Summer '20)

What’s new?

First, there was display as Table, then display as Kanban. Now there is Split View. View a record while still viewing a list. Split view is great for going through records in sequence or for quickly skimming through a set of records. The split view panel is collapsible for extra flexibility.

Why was this added?

Do you often find yourself working through multiple records in a list? With split view, you can see a list view and a record side by side. To move on to a new record, select it from the split view, and the new record opens with the list still in view. No more navigating back and forth between your list and your records. 

How does it work?
To access split view, select Split View from the Display as dropdown menu. If you select split view for an object, that object automatically loads in split view until you change its Display as view.

In split view, open a record to see it next to your list. Click the arrow button between the views to collapse or expand the list.

Note

Split view supports only objects that are on the navigation bar. To use split view, make sure that the object is added as a navigation item on the navigation bar. Split view previously was available only for the console navigation style.

Find Changed Deals at a Glance (Winter '21)

What’s new?

In the opportunities list view and Kanban view, text colors and arrows indicate amounts and close dates that changed during the last 7 days. And users can hover over an arrow to get details.

Why was this added?

Opportunity deal change highlights help your sales team prioritize work by showing recent changes to amounts and close dates. For example, knowing which deals changed helps sales managers with their weekly coaching sessions.

How does it work?

Opportunity deal change highlights are turned on by default, but you can turn them off (and back on) via Opportunity Settings in Setup.

Break Up Your Record Details with Dynamic Forms (Winter '21)

What’s new?

Dynamic Forms is the next step in the evolution of Lightning record pages. It adds the ability to configure record detail fields and sections inside the Lightning App Builder. This feature, which is now generally available and enabled for everyone, includes some changes since the beta release.

Why was this added?

The more fields on your page layout, the more that the Record Detail component becomes a monolithic block of fields that you can’t customize. With Dynamic Forms, you can migrate the fields and sections from your page layout as individual components into the Lightning App Builder. Then, you can configure them just like the rest of the components on the page, and give users only the fields and sections that they need.

How does it work?

Dynamic Forms is now enabled for everyone! As a result, you see new features available in the Lightning App Builder. A new Fields tab in the component palette contains Field and Field Section components, which are the building blocks for Dynamic Forms. And as you configure fields and sections, you get help from in-app tips, created just for Dynamic Forms-driven pages.

To get started, open an existing record page in the Lightning App Builder, then click Upgrade Now from the Record Detail properties pane to launch the Dynamic Forms migration wizard. With only a few clicks, the wizard adds fields and field sections to the page for you.

Migration isn’t the only path, however. You can also build your pages from scratch. Create a fresh Lightning record page, then drag fields and sections anywhere you want onto the page.

Note

Dynamic Forms is supported on record pages for custom objects only.

Ready to Get Hands-on with Dynamic Forms?

First, create a new Trailhead Playground now to follow along and try out the steps in this module. Scroll to the bottom of this page, click the playground name, and then select Create Playground. It typically takes 3–4 minutes for Salesforce to create your Trailhead Playground. You also use the playground when it's time to complete the hands-on challenges. 

Note: Yes, we really mean a brand-new Trailhead playground! If you use an existing org or playground, you can run into problems completing the challenges.

As noted above, Dynamic Forms only work on custom objects but a new custom object will need to be uploaded. The Lighting Object Creator requires you to update your Trailhead Playground password.

Update Your Playground Password

If you see a tab in your org labeled Get Your Login Credentials, great! Follow the steps below. 

If not, from the App Launcher App Launcher, find and open Playground Starter and follow the steps. If you don’t see the Playground Starter app, check out Find the Username and Password for Your Trailhead Playground on Trailhead Help.

  1. Click the Get Your Login Credentials tab and take note of your username.
  2. Click Reset My Password and click OK. This sends an email to the address associated with your username.
  3. Click the link in the email.
  4. Enter a new password, confirm it, and click Change Password.

Upload Your Spreadsheet

Time to upload the data for the custom object via Lightning Object Creator.

  1. Open this spreadsheet and save it.
  2. Click the setup cog Setup icon and select Setup.
  3. Click the Object Manager tab.
  4. Click Create.
  5. Select Custom Object from Spreadsheet.

  6. Click Log in with Salesforce.
  7. Enter your Trailhead Playground username (listed in the email you just received) and password that you reset in the previous section.
  8. Click Log In.
  9. Click Allow.
  10. Click Upload.
  11. Navigate to the New_Car_Survey.csv file you downloaded and upload.
  12. On the Define Object and Fields page, click Next.
  13. Label the custom object as New Car Survey, update the plural label to New Car Surveys, and ensure the API Name is New_Car_Survey
  14. Click Finish.
  15. Once the “Nice Work!” screen appears, close the object creator tab.

Upgrade to Dynamic Forms

With the custom object loaded into your org, it is time to get dynamic! Use the Lightning App Builder to upgrade the records of your custom object to use Dynamic Forms.

  1. Search and select New Car Surveys from the App Launcher.
    Note: If you see the "You can't view this item in Lightning Experience. Open in Salesforce Classic" error message, try refreshing the page or opening the Sales or Service app. Then search for your new custom object again. It is a web browser cache issue.
  2. Change the List View to All Records.
  3. Open the Daren Martinez record.
  4. From the Daren Martinez record, click Setup and select Edit Page.
  5. Click below Owner name in the canvas to select the Details component.
  6. Click Upgrade Now in the Record Detail to upgrade to Dynamic Forms.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select the radio button next to New Car Survey Layout.
  9. Click Finish.

Customize the Record with Dynamic Forms

  1. Click in the white area below the Owner field in the interactive canvas to select the Information component.
  2. With the Information component selected, select 1 Column in the details panel on the right.

  3. Click the New_Car_Survey field in the canvas to select it.
  4. Click the trash icon to remove this field.
  5. Drag and drop the 4 Wheel Drive field to immediately below the Type field.
  6. With the 4 Wheel Drive field still selected, click Add Filter in the details panel on the right.
  7. Click Advanced.
  8. Click Select under Field.
  9. Select Record then Type.
  10. Click Done.
  11. Ensure Operator has the Equal value selected.
  12. Change the Value selected to SUV.
  13. Click Done.
  14. Repeat steps 6 through 12 and change the Value selected to Truck and click Done.
  15. Under Show components when: select Any filters are true.
  16. Click Save and then Activate.
  17. Click Assign as Org Default.
  18. Select Desktop and phone.
  19. Click Next and then Save.
  20. Click the back arrow to leave the Lightning App Builder.

Test the Dynamic Forms

  1. From the Daren Martinez record, notice that the 4 Wheel Drive field is currently not visible in the Fields section.
  2. Edit the Type to Truck.
    Note: Notice the warning message of a new field appearing.
  3. Click Save.
  4. The 4 Wheel Drive field is now visible in the Fields section.
  5. Click the Additional Fields section.
    Note: Notice that the Fields section collapses as the Additional Field section expands.

And just like that, you’ve uploaded a custom object and converted it’s record pages to use Dynamic Forms. If this were a Dynamic Form, you’d be seeing a congratulations message because the success checkbox equals true!
