For a particular dashboard, whenever we change the datasource location or the datasource (with another datasource having the same schema as the earlier one) the viz breaks in the dashboard....like order, formatiing, colur palette, datasource level filter, custom sql calculations etc...everything has to be re-done. Any workaround to this to avoid the re-work?
Tableau isn't really great on changing data sources like that. My best tip is .... stop doing that (ie get the data in a database properly before you start creating dashboards), but that's not always possible/practical.
To reduce (not eliminate) the settings that you are using, try this:
- open the workbook
- slowly go through every sheet, dashboard, story (everything) that you can see a tab for (so the bottom row in Desktop). Do this SLOWLY .... WAIT for each sheet, dashboard, story to full render and be working before you click on the next one.
- then you can change data sources / replace / whatever
You will still lose some settings and formatting, but not as much as just open > change data source.
