If you want to have the possibility to scan both Leads and Contacts, have a look at LiiD (http://liid.com/). The scanner will let you choose which one you are creating and also attach to an existing account or create a new one if needed. You can also customize the app and have drop-downs or checkboxes to capture info that is important for you.
