    Extended Mail Merge features

     

    Resolution

     

    Extended Mail Merge differs from previous Mail Merge in the following ways:

     

        * XMM runs server-side (no client Active X required any more)

     

        * XMM allows envelopes and labels

     

        * XMM does work with Office 2007 & 2010(document must be saved in a 97-2003 DOC format)

     

        * XMM works for all browsers (MM is just MSIE)

     

        * XMM sends the resulting word doc out in email

     

        * XMM allows an option to copy resulting word doc into Documents tab also

     

        * XMM allows multiple items per merge

    Mail Merge VS Extended Mail Merge Considerations

     

          Standard mail merge requires:

     

              o Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0, or 8.0

     

              o Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007

     

              o Microsoft Windows XP or higher(Windows 7 Not Supported)

     

          Extended Mail Merge supports the following additional environments: the Mozilla Firefox Web browser and the Apple Mac OS. Furthermore, it does not require the installation of an ActiveX control.

     

          Standard mail merge and Extended Mail Merge support versions of Microsoft Word 2000 and above.

     

        

     

        * Mail merge documents give you access only to the fields that are accessible to you via your page layout and field-level security settings. (Field-level security is available in Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions only.)

     

        * Standard and extended mail merge don't support formatting from rich text area fields.

     

        * With Extended Mail Merge, a mail merge operation cannot exceed the following limits:

     

              o 1000 records

     

              o The selected mail merge template(s) total size cannot be larger than 1 MB.

     

              o For mass mail merges, the number of selected records multiplied by the combined sizes of the selected mail merge templates cannot be larger than 50 MB.

     

    To activate Extended Mail Merge

     

    Setup | Customize | User Interface: "Activate Extended Mail Merge" check box
