Before You Start

Before you start this module, consider completing the following recommended content.

Public Sector Solutions Architecture

Governments worldwide are embracing a digital-first approach to enhance service delivery and increase constituent engagement. They’re saying goodbye to paper-based processes, inefficient systems, and poor transparency. Emerging technologies are helping agencies ‌reimagine all the ways in which they serve their constituents and allocate resources.

The struggle lies in selecting the right tool that streamlines and strengthens all the aspects of governance operations. Licensing and permitting, inspections, social programs, benefit management, and employee recruitment each call for unique workflows, tools, and compliance protocols.

Public Sector Solutions is the key to unlocking your agency’s potential. Built on the Salesforce Platform, the gold standard for customer engagement, Public Sector Solutions is scalable, adaptable, and designed to meet the needs of governments. With a flexible data model, prebuilt applications, and powerful tools and components, you can modernize all of your agency services and strengthen your impact on the community.

In this module, you explore the design and architecture of Public Sector Solutions, and learn how a modular system composition paves the way for agency success.

Here’s a diagram of the Public Sector Solutions architecture.

The architecture includes Service Cloud and other underlying clouds, the Public Sector Solutions data model and Industry Common Layer components, along with prebuilt apps tailored for key government operations. You explore all of these building blocks as you progress through the module.

Benefits of a Modular Approach

Public Sector Solutions gives you the flexibility to select and configure the right combination of features for your agency so you can meet your goals. A modular approach means that instead of a rigid, one-size-fits-all system, you can assemble a customized digital toolkit using interchangeable apps, tools, and components. Because government initiatives and duties vary across geographies, jurisdictions, and departments—each with different laws and policies—this flexibility is essential.

For example, the City of Cosville handles a wide range of services for its constituents, including licensing and permitting. For years, the Cosville Compliance Department has had to deal with piles of paper applications, while employees have spent hours manually entering data from handwritten notes into an outdated system. Without an effective way to collaborate, compliance officers, application reviewers, and field inspectors struggled to process license requests in a timely manner. These inefficiencies resulted in long wait times for constituents, the postponement of public events, and delays in construction projects and business openings.

Now, Cosville uses Public Sector Solutions to handle all their regulatory authorization processes. Instead of phone calls, emails, and paper forms, constituents can learn all about license and permit requirements through a public portal.

From the web portal, constituents can digitally apply for all the necessary authorization to perform activities, such as opening a business location.

Cosville compliance workers use the License and Permit Management app to efficiently work through all the regulatory processes related to authorization requests. They can easily manage incoming applications using automated approval processes, which facilitate application reviews. A unified view of the business or constituent account and related compliance records means compliance workers can quickly reference regulatory codes and track violations and enforcement actions.

This way, compliance managers stay organized as they work with multiple license and permit applications.

For licenses or permits that require an onsite inspection, compliance officers use the Inspections Management app to assign visits to field inspectors. Other helpful tools, such as action plans and dynamic assessments, simplify the work of inspectors while on-site.

You can configure dynamic assessment forms to only show relevant follow-up questions based on responses to previous questions.

In this unit, you explored a few ways that the Public Sector Solutions modular architecture simplifies government operations. With the right combination of standard Salesforce objects, Industry Common Layer components, and prebuilt apps, you can customize the modular architecture to achieve your unique objectives.

In the next unit, you delve deeper into the powerful Public Sector Solutions architecture, including the underlying platform, clouds, and components that enhance your agency's services.
