B2C Solution Architect Overview

The Salesforce Certified B2C Solution Architect credential is designed for individuals who can architect and drive multi-cloud solutions that deliver strategic business value for the customer. The credential validates that a B2C Solution Architect can combine guidance from different enterprise architecture viewpoints to create solutions.

Salesforce introduced feature enhancements affecting B2C architecture solutions over the past year. Let’s take a look at some of the more important ones.

Exchange Fulfilled Items Using UI Flows

A new Salesforce feature enhances order management by enabling post-fulfillment and uneven exchanges directly within the user interface, eliminating the need for additional API flows.

Enhance your exchanges with post-fulfillment and uneven exchanges—no need to create a new flow using APIs. Increase your post-order services and provide a more flexible order management experience. To use the exchanges flow in the UI, clone the flow and add it to your Actions and Recommendations section.

When a customer needs to exchange a fulfilled product, the value of the new product may differ from the original. This can result in either a refund or an additional payment due. To process an uneven exchange, follow these steps.

  1. From the Navigation bar, open the Order Summaries list view page.
  2. Open the order summary for the item to exchange.
  3. From the Actions & Recommendations list, select the uneven exchange flow.
If you didn’t rename the flow when cloning it, then the name is Exchanges with RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) Returns.
  4. Select the products that the customer wants to exchange, and click Next.
  5. For each item selected, select the quantity to exchange and reason for exchange.
  6. Select the store with the item that your user wants to exchange their item for, and click Next.
  7. Click Add a Product and select the item that your customer wants.
  8. Select a quantity and click Add.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Enter your customer’s shipping address and a delivery option.
  11. Review the order details on the order preview page, then click Next.
  12. Submit the order.
    1. For an even exchange or if a refund is needed, click Next. The refund amount is returned using the customer’s original order payment method.
    2. If additional funds are needed, you’ll be prompted to enter the customer's payment information.

This change applies to Order Management in Unlimited, Developer, and Enterprise editions with the Order Management Growth license.

Manage Encryption Keys for Data Cloud

Working with data at scale is a big job that can come with extra compliance and regulatory requirements. Now you can control the keys that encrypt your data at rest in Data Cloud with a single manageable root key. With Platform Encryption for Data Cloud, simply turn on key management for Data Cloud, and Salesforce generates a root key for you. The root key secures the data encryption key that’s used for encrypt and decrypt operations. You can rotate your root key and view root key details for easy auditing. This simplifies key rotation and tracking to demonstrate compliance during audits.

Platform Encryption for Data Cloud was made available in September of 2024. This change is available to customers who purchased Shield Platform Encryption and Platform Encryption for Data Cloud add-on subscriptions. Platform Encryption for Data Cloud doesn’t support Government Cloud.

To provision Platform Encryption for Data Cloud, contact your account executive. Once you have it, you can turn on Manage Data Cloud Keys in the Encryption Settings in Setup. Salesforce generates a root key for you, which you can see on the Key Management page under the Data Cloud tab.

Retain Data with Privacy Center

Honor customer requests on how their sensitive data is handled and add data retention to your compliance strategy using Privacy Center on the Salesforce platform.

To stay compliant with data privacy laws, you’re sometimes required to delete or obfuscate customer data, or to retain it for a certain period of time. Now you can add data retention to your compliance strategy without using the managed-package version of Privacy Center. Data retention is available in the new, platform-native version of Privacy Center. With data retention, you can copy records to an external data store at the same time that you mask or delete them. You can also view the externally retained records by setting up your retention store with Salesforce Connect.

Data retention becomes available in different regions on a rolling basis starting in August 2024. Before using the feature, check to see if it’s supported in your region. This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions. Data retention isn’t available in Government Cloud.

The platform-native version of Privacy Center is the modernized, enhanced version that Salesforce recommends for all customers. Here are some advantages to consider.

  • Your Privacy Center license includes data retention as an out-of-the-box feature, along with a certain amount of free storage.
  • You can provision a retention store for testing purposes in your sandbox.
  • You can import privacy policies directly from a sandbox to a production org and vice versa. With this capability, you can test and deploy your data retention implementation seamlessly.
  • The new Privacy Center offers an updated and improved user interface compared to the managed-package version of Privacy Center.

To comply with data privacy laws, businesses can use the data management policies feature in the Privacy Center, and use the Privacy Center app to create unique policies, manage requests, and monitor the status and results of scheduled jobs.

Export and Integrate Shared Business Across Salesforce Orgs with Partner Connect

Streamline collaboration on the business that you share with trusted partners using Partner Connect. Previously, vendors and partners have struggled to coordinate shared business across Salesforce orgs. Sellers and channel managers had to manually reconcile shared data across the partnership. Now, vendor and partner admins can connect orgs and fine-tune what’s automatically shared between them. As a result, both companies can be transparent about their mutual interests while maintaining data privacy where it's required.

Partner Connect allows vendors and partners who work leads and opportunities together to see and track their progress while working from the comfort of their own Salesforce orgs. Partner Connect securely connects two Salesforce orgs, allowing a partner to export selected records from a vendor’s Experience Cloud site to the partner’s own org. A connection is maintained across exported records, providing vendors and partner users with a read-only glimpse of how the records progress independently for each company.

This change applies to Aura sites accessed through Lightning Experience in Enterprise and Unlimited editions with Sales Cloud or Service Cloud. Vendors must have a Partnership Relations Management (PRM) add-on license for the partner admin user and each partner user who’s allowed to export records.

Provide Personalized Experiences with Einstein Personalization

Provide customers with AI-based recommendations and personalized content in real time with Einstein Personalization. Using foundational Data Cloud elements, like real-time data ingestion, identity resolution, calculated insights, and data graphs, Einstein Personalization can deliver relevant, targeted, individualized content to customers. Einstein Personalization also gathers and displays metrics to provide insights into the usage and effectiveness of personalized decisions.

Einstein Personalization is a Customer 360 application that works with Data Cloud to provide personalized experiences across Salesforce clouds. Use it to assist with Data Cloud setup for Einstein Personalization. The package installs required data stream bundles and DMO mappings. It uses product recommendations and goal-based and rule-based content targeting to deliver personalized recommendations and custom content to users.

How Einstein Personalization Works

Einstein Personalization uses Data Cloud to isolate, organize, and prepare data for use as personalized content. Data Cloud data spaces provide logical partitions to organize the data for profile unification, calculated insights, and marketing.

A data space contains data graphs that use data model objects (DMOs) to build precalculated views of your data. Personalization uses these data graphs to obtain and deliver personalized content to users or site visitors. Personalization uses its own DMOs when making decisions about which individuals are eligible to receive personalization and when determining which personalized content to provide.

This feature is available in Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Unlimited, Performance, and Developer editions with Data Cloud.

Sum It Up

You’ve learned about some of the most important Salesforce feature releases for Salesforce B2C architects over the past year. Now it’s time to test your understanding of these topics and complete the exam to maintain your B2C Solution Architect certification.
