Set Up Your Salesforce Org

This admin-focused Lightning Experience project shows you how to convert a Classic App into a Lightning App—all with clicks not code! You’ll learn how to:

  • Evaluate how ready your org is for Lightning Experience.
  • Enable Lightning Experience.
  • Make a Classic App available in Lightning Experience.
  • Customize business processes and report features for Lightning.
  • Create a Lightning Console App.
  • Display different experiences to users based on app and user profiles.

Exciting stuff right? Let’s get rolling. The first thing to do is sign up for a special environment that we’ll use throughout this project. It has the Classic App that you’ll work with.

Sign Up for the Lightning Now Developer Edition Org

For this project, you can’t use an existing Developer Edition (DE) org. You must sign up for a special DE because it comes with the customizations that you’ll use in this project.

  1. Sign up for a Lightning Now Developer Edition (DE) org.
  2. Fill out the form using an active email address. Your username must also look like an email address and be unique, but it doesn’t need to be a valid email account. For example, your username can be yourname@lightningnow.de, or you can put in your company name.
  3. After you fill out the form, click Sign me up. A confirmation message appears.
  4. When you receive the activation email, open it and click Verify Account.
  5. Complete the registration form—set your password and enter a security answer.
  6. Click Change Password. You’ll be logged in to your DE and redirected to the Setup page.
  7. Now connect your Lightning Now DE to Trailhead so that you can pass the challenges in this project:
    1. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the dropdown next to Verify Step, and select Log into a Developer Edition.
    2. Enter your Lightning Now DE username and password, then click Log In.
    3. Click Allow and then Yes! Save it.
    4. Click Launch to open your DE.

Note: To log in to your Lightning Now DE and play any time, go to login.salesforce.com and enter the credentials you just set up.

Next, go to this Wikipedia page, right click the image, and save it to your desktop. We’ll use this later as the icon for a new Lightning App.
