Create an Org for Your Integration

To successfully complete this project, you need access to the username and password of your Salesforce org. You also need to set the login IP ranges for your org.

Create a New Trailhead Playground

For this project, you need to create a new Trailhead Playground. Follow these steps to create your playground.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of this page. You’ll see the name of a hands-on org and a Launch button.
  2. Click the hands-on org name, then click Create Playground.
Note: It typically takes 3-4 minutes to create a new Trailhead Playground.
Note

Yes, we really mean a brand-new Trailhead playground! If you use an existing org or playground, you can run into problems completing the steps in this project.

Get Your Trailhead Playground’s Username and Password

The integration between Trailhead and the Playground org makes the default password inaccessible. You need a password to access the org from outside of Trailhead, such as MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.

To reset the Trailhead Playground password, follow these steps.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of this page, select your Trailhead Playground, and click Launch.
  2. Click App Launcher to launch the App Launcher, then search for and click Playground Starter.
  3. Click the Get Your Login Credentials tab. Here you can see your Trailhead Playground username.
  4. Click Reset My Password, then click OK. This sends an email to the address associated with your username.
  5. Click the link in the email. Enter a new password, confirm it, and click Change Password.

Make a note of the username and password because you use them in the next step of this project.

Set Login IP Ranges

For your integration to work as expected, you’ll need to set the login IP range for each of your orgs. If the login range isn’t set from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255, Salesforce will require you to use a security token. You can certainly set up your Mule app to work with security tokens. However, this method is quicker.

In your Trailhead Playground, you control login access at the user level by specifying a range of allowed IP addresses on a user’s profile. When you define IP address restrictions for a profile, a login from any other IP address is denied.

Follow these steps to set the Login IP Ranges for your Trailhead Playgrounds.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of this page, select your Trailhead Playground, and click Launch.
  2. Click gear icon in the top right of your playground, and select Setup.
  3. Enter Profiles in the Quick Find box, and select Profiles.
  4. Navigate to the System Administrator profile, and click its name.
  5. On the profile overview page, click Login IP Ranges.
  6. Click New, and enter the following allowed IP addresses for the profile.
    • Start IP Address: 0.0.0.0
    • End IP Address: 255.255.255.255
  7. Click Save.

Ready to check your work? In the Challenge section, select the Trailhead Playground you created, and click Launch. Then click Verify Step to check your setup.
