  • Identify the five key pillars of a healthy lifestyle.
  • Describe ways to measure wellbeing goals.

So, What Does It Mean to Live Well?

When it comes to wellbeing, there’s a lot to consider. After consulting industry experts, we defined five key areas that are essential to a healthy lifestyle and productive workforce.

Nourish. Fuel up on knowledge that can help you tackle your healthy eating goals.
Revive. Recharge with resources for sleeping well, taking time off, and unplugging.
Move. Do your body good with exercises and activities that work for your lifestyle.
Thrive.  Manage stress and build resiliency to help you roll with life’s punches.
Prosper. Focus on your finances and gain knowledge that will help you plan for your future.

We promote tips, tools, challenges, and events to help Salesforce employees explore each of these areas. So, let’s dive deeper into the five key pillars.

The Pillars of B-Well

Campers eating, meditating, running, and lying down representing four of the key areas of Camp B-Well—Nourish, Revive, Move, and Thrive.

Nourish. Eating nutritious, delicious food is the first step to build a healthy, vibrant life! Because a healthy diet protects against malnutrition and helps prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer (World Health Organization). Through Camp B-Well, we serve up expert knowledge, skills, and fun challenges to improve your eating habits so you can feel your best from the inside out.

Revive. You snooze, you win! Resting boosts your immune system, recharges your heart, and sharpens your mind. A study from Harvard Medical School reports that getting enough high-quality sleep can be as important to health and wellbeing as nutrition and exercise. With the resources and tools at Camp B-Well, you can learn how to develop healthy sleep habits, take time off to spend with family and friends, unplug in order to rest your mind and body, and come back to work refreshed.

Move. Exercise makes you stronger—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Encouraging employees to move is a powerful way we can help lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes, which according to the World Health Organization, are all leading risk factors for death worldwide. At Camp B-Well, we know that moving looks different for everyone, so we make it easy to find ways to treat your body right, with workouts and practices that fit your lifestyle.

Thrive. Life can be fast-paced, challenging, and unpredictable—inside and outside of work. But we don’t always have the tools to cope. In fact, 3 in 10 employees have reported severe stress, anxiety, or depression within the last 2 years (Willis Towers Watson). That's why Camp B-Well helps you develop the skills necessary to manage stress, recover from difficult circumstances, find balance, and build resiliency to thrive in any situation.

Chart from the 2017 Willis Towers Watson survey entitled “Around three in 10 workers report severe stress, anxiety or depression within the last two years” demonstrates more than 30% of employees have reported these health issues. Survey responses span: Asia Pacific (21%) Europe, Middle East and Africa (29%) Latin America (32%) North America (33%)

Prosper. Invest in your financial wellbeing. We know that money can be a major life stressor. According to Willis Towers Watson’s Global Benefits Attitudes survey, worrying about money is on the rise among employees around the world. The good news is that focusing on your financial wellbeing can help alleviate some of the stress and worry around money and improve your overall health and wellbeing. That's why Camp B-Well gives you access to resources and support to help you navigate your finances and achieve your financial goals.

Wellbeing is ever evolving and unique to everyone, but we think these pillars are a good start to help guide our employees on their journey to health and happiness. In later units, we show you how you can bring these pillars to life for you and your team.

Can Wellbeing Be Measured?

The answer is, yes!

Ultimately, our big measure of success is a healthier workforce. If we can achieve this, it can help our Salesforce team make an even greater positive impact on the world and also drive down our healthcare costs. What company doesn’t want that? It’s a big goal—but big goals have to start somewhere!

At Salesforce, we’re serious about providing programs and resources that prioritize wellbeing at the individual level. We encourage each employee to include a wellbeing measure on their V2MOM (Salesforce’s annual business planning and goal setting process), whether it be practicing meditation, becoming more active, or spending time with family.

Now that you know how and why we focus on wellbeing, let’s talk about what it means for you and your team. In the next unit, we share ways you can put your own wellbeing program into action—unlocking your employees’ potential and allowing them to do the best work of their lives.
