Learn About CRM Analytics Setup

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:
  • Explain what CRM Analytics is and why it has its own setup.
  • Sign up for a CRM Analytics-enabled Developer Edition org.

The Impossible Takes a Little Longer

As the Salesforce admin for DTC Electronics, you’re used to getting oddball, out-of-left-field requests, but this one takes the prize. Your boss, the VP of IT, comes into your office after attending the annual exec strategy retreat. She tells you how excited she is about CRM Analytics, an application built on top of Salesforce.

“The whole company’s moving to CRM Analytics for business intelligence, and it’s going to change everything overnight!” she says. Not only is CRM Analytics going to make analytics easier for the line-of-business managers, it’s going to boost DTC’s competitive position in the market. “We’re going to understand our customer better than ever—and our managers are going to be able to make data-driven decisions a lot faster.”

She asks you to get the whole company set up to use CRM Analytics by next Monday. Since it’s already Thursday, you remind her that the difficult takes time, and the impossible takes a little longer. You ask if you can have until Wednesday to get the job done.

She agrees that the extra time is reasonable, but as she leaves your office, you shake your head. What did you just sign up for?

Trailhead to the Rescue

Never fear: We’re here to help. In this module, we take you through setting up CRM Analytics for your org. You discover that, while you have to be aware of a few nonintuitive things along the way, generally setting up CRM Analytics is straightforward. You just have to take it one step at time. And once you know how, you can do it again, quickly, for new users and new projects.

Keep in mind how important what you’re doing is for the rest of the company. Your setup work is the first step in DTC’s adoption of the CRM Analytics platform and apps. Once you’re done, you and other Salesforce admins at DTC can:

  • Import DTC’s Salesforce and external data into CRM Analytics so you can analyze it all at once.
  • Build dashboards that provide cool visualizations based on that data.
  • Explore data using CRM Analytics dashboards to answer questions about your business, and discover answers to questions you didn’t know you had.

In the end, the VP is excited, and the rest of the company is hugely grateful. CRM Analytics visualizations and the easy-to-use interface can make them quickly forget any tool they’ve used for analytics before. In CRM Analytics, users do work themselves, rather than waiting for an analyst! It’s self-service analytics. Your users can get their work done faster and more intelligently, based on the data-driven insights they get from CRM Analytics.
