Learner Support

Empowering students with knowledge and skills is the goal of every educational institution. While top-notch curriculum and instructors go a long way toward achieving this goal, there’s another cornerstone of the learning experience that often goes overlooked: support.

Students often need the help of advisors, tutors, counselors, and several other teams to remove barriers, resolve problems, and develop a clear path toward completing their objectives. When students receive personalized support, they’re more likely to stay motivated, engaged, and committed to their education, and feel more connected to their alma mater after graduation.

Let’s face it: Taking detailed notes, writing essays, and studying for exams is difficult enough. By removing obstacles that hinder the student’s learning, you can help them ‌maintain a strong focus on their studies and get the most out of their academic programs.

Sadly, because of outdated systems, disjointed data, and the inability to monitor individual student progress, institution staff face difficulty identifying and resolving problems before they grow out of control. Learners can’t easily find and connect with the correct resources to support their learning and wellbeing. Without proactive support, they’re left to navigate challenging paths and make difficult choices on their own, such as planning their careers. As a result, students struggle with grades, attendance, or other problems that impact their academic performance and block their path toward graduation.

Learner support is critical, so Education Cloud includes Student Success. Student Success gives your institution the tools to optimize your support for each learner, address their personal challenges, and help them stay on the path toward achieving their goals.

Student Success in Education Cloud

Student Success is a central platform designed to help students thrive and prosper. It provides intelligent tools for advisors, counselors, and other success teams to monitor the performance of each student, access student information, and proactively roll out personalized solutions. Students can quickly find and connect with the relevant success teams and enroll in programs to support their unique learning path and individual needs, and use digital planning tools to map out their educational journey.

Student Success App

In Education Cloud, a success team represents a group of professionals with expertise in assisting learners in a specific area, such as academics, career advisory, mental health, disability counseling, and other categories. The Student Success app simplifies success team management with a workspace geared toward supporting students. By using dedicated consoles, advisors, counselors, and other staff can view and manage assignments, appointments, and tasks. They can also monitor issues, and deliver timely resources, including programs and services, to help students address individual challenges. Teams can also measure their impact and assess the student experience over time through KPIs and analytics dashboards.

Advising and Case Management

Set up specialized success teams to guide students, solve problems, and provide resources. Each success team focuses on a certain category of student support, such as advisory, wellbeing, or career guidance. You can create specialized support pools of advisors, assign success teams to student cases based on record type, or use flows and Business Rules Engine to automatically assign the relevant success teams based on certain conditions, such as a student failing a course.

Support Programs and Outcome Tracking

Create and publish your support programs on the learner portal so that students can view information about each program and self-enroll. Use Einstein generative AI to quickly develop intake assessments and connect them to programs so that you can discover each learner’s aspirations, goals, challenges, and requirements, and determine how to best support them. You can then define, measure, and evaluate the impact of your support programs using Outcome Management.

Care Plans and Action Plans

Education Cloud includes several components to set learners on a path toward reaching their academic, career, or personal goals. Success teams can assign care plans and action plans to keep students on track and organized as they seek to achieve a positive outcome. Care plans include a set of goals, benefits, and tasks designed to support each student in a certain area, while action plans are self-service checklists of tasks that help learners visualize their progress and realize their goals. From the Learner Portal, students can access their assigned care plans and use action plan templates to configure their own personal checklists.

Student Engagement, Self Service, and Appointment Scheduling

The Learner Portal is an Experience Cloud site that empowers students to view their success teams and assigned advisors, schedule and manage appointments, and enroll in support programs. They can also access their care plans, benefits, goals, and tasks, and get an overview of their academic progress. This progress includes enrollments, completion percentages, credits, and details about each academic term.

On the Learner Portal, students can find personalized resources and self-service tools to support their academic journey.

Intelligent Degree Planner and Intelligent Program Comparison

Student Success simplifies the degree planning experience for both learners and advisors. With the Intelligent Degree Planner, they can visualize courses across terms, easily see prerequisites, corequisites, and other requirements, and automatically calculate credits or credit hours needed to complete each program. Intelligent Program Comparison gives students and advisors the ability to quickly view and compare the details and requirements of several programs in a side-by-side view. The combination of these tools helps students plan their path toward graduation and make changes along the way.

Actionable Student Lists, Advising Summaries, and Student Insights

To better manage their support, advisors can create custom lists of Learner Profiles and filter the lists based on certain criteria. This helps them to view assigned advisees, international students, or other groups who sometimes need additional support. AI-generated advising summaries also help success teams to gain a quick understanding of each learner’s case. These summaries include academic progress, engagement, support program enrollments, responses to assessments and pulse checks, and more. You can use Data 360 to unify all your student data from external systems, including learning management systems, and then employ AI to gather relevant, holistic insights for personalized learner support.

Alerts

With Student Success, you can set up alerts to notify success teams about at-risk student attendance, grades, or other metrics, and configure automatic care plan assignments to address common issues. Create watchlists to proactively monitor learners who require support, and set a priority status for students who need expedited help. Visual indicators show the student’s current term course status, such as At Risk, On Track, or Needs Attention.

Pulse Checks

Create one-time or recurring pulse checks to gather feedback from learners, identify individuals in need of support, and gain insights to guide your success team strategies and support programs. From these findings, you can assess student engagement, satisfaction, and overall wellbeing, and use score graphs to track learner sentiment over time. Each student’s pulse check responses appear on case records and are included in the advising summaries you just learned about.

Throughout the rest of this module, you explore each of these features and components and learn how Student Success helps your institution ‌better connect with, engage, and support your learners. Along the way, you follow members of the Astro University staff and a first-year student, Sophia, as they explore and use Student Success features and tools.

So far, you’ve learned the basics of Student Success. In the next unit, discover how support programs, action plans, and care plans provide essential assistance and guidance to learners.
