Meet Student Success Hub for Higher Education

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Discuss the main features of Student Success Hub for Higher Education.
  • Describe how your institution can provide comprehensive student support with Student Success Hub for Higher Education.
Note

This module provides information about the managed package version of Education Cloud. As of March 2023 new or migrated customers use Education Cloud integrated platform solutions instead of managed packages. For information about the integrated platform solution, go to our Education Cloud Documentation.

Holistic Support for Students and Staff

In some of our other Trailhead modules, we talk about Salesforce as a CRM tool. CRM generally stands for “customer relationship management.” But we think of it as “constituent relationship management” when we’re talking about areas like education, nonprofit, and public sector.

And in virtually every industry, the line between customer and constituent is becoming increasingly blurry when it comes to our expectations for technology. As retail and commercial customers, we’ve gotten used to a certain level of connection, convenience, and availability of information. Our favorite stores send us customized emails when there’s a sale that might interest us. And we get reminder notifications when we add things to an online cart without following through with a purchase.

Without even realizing it, we carry those same expectations over to our interactions with other organizations, too–including our schools and workplaces. It should be as easy to schedule an advising appointment online as it is to buy a backpack. The software we use at work should quickly and easily give us all the information we need in order to do our jobs well.

That’s the type of experience that Student Success Hub for Higher Education brings to your institution. All of your constituents–external and internal–feel supported and connected, with access to comprehensive data analysis, unified collaboration tools, and convenient communication channels all in one place.

Unified Student Records

Anyone at your institution who’s invested in student success can do their job better if they have a complete picture of each student in their purview. That includes everyone from faculty members and advisors to career counselors and wellness coordinators, among others.

Unified Student Records provide that picture. Everything from contact details to course information to success indicators and more come together on a single, easy-to-navigate page.

The Unified Student Record displays a student engagement snapshot along with all other relevant student information.

The record is truly student oriented, not just user oriented. This means it can capture and share information from anyone on the student’s success team. (That’s what we call the folks at your institution who regularly interact with a particular student.) Here are just a few examples.

  • Advisors can see details of communications between the student and faculty members.
  • Wellness coordinators can add notes for advisor and faculty awareness.
  • Success team members can send direct messages and collaborate within the Chatter feed, with the audit trail visible to all.

Tailored Success Plans

Success plans are at the core of Student Success Hub for Higher Education. They lay out specific tasks that students or success team members must complete to reach a goal or milestone like first-semester onboarding, achieving a particular major, overcoming academic probation, or applying for a study abroad program.

Success plans list open activities that currently require attention and a history of completed tasks.

Like most things in Salesforce, success plans are incredibly flexible and customizable. You can create tailored plans for individual students or use one of the preconfigured templates. You can also make your own templates for common scenarios specific to your institution and make them available for everyone to use on an ongoing basis.

Valuable Data Insight

In addition to providing the student-oriented records and success plans, Student Success Hub for Higher Education aggregates data into support staff-oriented reports and dashboards. This makes it easier for your staff to quickly and easily monitor workload, address anything that needs immediate attention, and discover trends related to student needs.

Some of the reports that come with Student Success Hub for Higher Education include:

  • Appointments with Attendees
  • Cases with Alerts for Support
  • My Upcoming Appointments
  • Students Who Missed Appointments
  • My Open and Overdue Success Plan Tasks
  • My Students Not Enrolled Next Term

For a complete list of reports and dashboards and where to find them, check out Student Success Hub Reporting and Analytics articles in the Student Success Hub Documentation in Resources.

Student Success Hub Tableau Accelerator

Going beyond the standard reports and dashboards, the Student Success Hub Tableau Accelerator turns data into actionable insights for users at all levels of your institution. Accelerators are ready-to-use dashboards that you can combine with your data and customize to fit your needs. You can see current alert, appointment, and other student data in a variety of formats like bar graphs, scatter plots, and lists.

The Analytics Overview highlights points of interest while providing intuitive visualizations for a broad range of data.

Note

You must connect Salesforce to Tableau in order to use the Student Success Hub Tableau Accelerator. If you’re new to Tableau, you can get started by purchasing at least one Tableau Creator license or starting a free 14-day trial (linked in Resources).

Now that you’ve learned a bit about some of Student Success Hub’s main features, head on to the next unit to dig deeper into what it’s like to use as a staff member.
