Slack Updates: What’s New and Why It Matters

In this module, you'll learn how new tools like Enterprise Search, Agentforce AI Agents, Salesforce integration, and AI in Slack improve how teams find information, automate work, and stay aligned. These updates are designed to reduce busywork and switching between tools, and make Slack more helpful as your central workspace.

Let’s go over each major update and what it means for your day-to-day work.

Slack Enterprise Search gives users in Enterprise+ organizations the ability to search across all connected workspaces from a single query. Instead of jumping between separate Slack instances to track down a conversation, file, or decision, now get results from all available workspaces—including Google Drive, GitHub, and more—without leaving your current workspace.

This cross-workspace search makes Slack a unified knowledge base by streamlining access to institutional memory and helping teams move faster with better information.

In addition to searching across workspaces, Enterprise Search also lets you:

  • Work in one place: Find files, messages, and updates from the tools you use every day—without leaving Slack.
  • Uncover useful information: Ask a question and get relevant answers from across your company’s connected workspaces.
  • Search naturally: Use everyday language to refine your search and get more accurate, helpful results.
  • Make informed decisions: Bring together data from multiple sources, all in one view.
  • Get ready for automation: Create a foundation for smarter, faster workflows that support AI agents and automation.

With all of that in mind, Enterprise Search is transforming Slack into the AI-powered platform for work. To get started, Org Owners or Org Admins can enable Enterprise Search for their org.

Introducing Agentforce AI Agents

Nearly half of employees say they struggle to find the information they need to do their jobs, according to Gartner. Agentforce uses conversational data from your Slack workspace—including messages from channels, lists, and canvases—to generate relevant and informed responses.

Organizations using a paid Slack plan and a Salesforce Agentforce license can deploy these agents in just a few steps. Once set up, Agentforce agents can monitor conversations, respond to user prompts, perform automated tasks, and even initiate complex workflows—making it easier than ever to reduce manual work and boost operational efficiency.

Post in a Channel

Agents can post updates, alerts, or insights directly into any Slack channel. Intelligent targeting and timing keeps the broader team informed without adding noise.

Not sure who to contact about a project or question? Agentforce can identify the right teammate and send them a message on your behalf—all within Slack.

Deeply Unified Slack and Salesforce Integration

Slack and Salesforce continue to create a deeply unified platform with features that make it easier than ever to manage customer data and sales activities directly within Slack. Slack Sales Elevate functionality, including Sales Home and workflow automations, have been rolled into the new Business+ and Enterprise+ SKUs. Sales Home integrates with Salesforce Sales Cloud to centralize information and processes in Slack so that it becomes a centralized workspace for all things CRM. Sales Home is available in the new Business+ and Enterprise+ plans.

Salesforce channels are dedicated Slack channels that are connected to Salesforce records such as Accounts, Opportunities, or Cases. Salesforce channels centralize conversations about customers, drive deal progress, and update Salesforce records, all in Slack. They also include multiple tabs to provide rich context. Salesforce channels are now available in all Slack plans—including free plans—giving all Salesforce customers access to Slack. In addition, Salesforce channels can be seen in both Slack and the Salesforce UI, ensuring teams can collaborate seamlessly where they work best.

AI in Slack now offers a set of generative AI that creates automatic conversation summaries highlighting:

Workflow Generation from Plain English

Creating workflows in Slack is now faster and easier—no technical skills required. Just describe the process in natural language—like “Remind the team about standups every morning”—and Slack AI will generate a ready-to-edit workflow in seconds. From there, use the built-in workflow builder to customize and launch.

Customize Control with Custom Admin Roles

Admins now have more flexibility to delegate responsibilities without granting full access.

Org Primary Owners and Roles Admins can create custom admin roles tailored to specific tasks. Instead of granting broad, all-or-nothing permissions, you can now assign responsibilities like user provisioning, data exports, or retention policy updates to the right people without compromising security. For example, you might set up a “Compliance Admin” who can manage retention settings but can’t access user accounts or billing. This added control helps organizations stay secure while allowing trusted team members to manage key admin tasks efficiently.

Streamline App Management with Integrations Admin

Slack now lets Org Owners submit and manage workspace migration requests directly from the admin dashboard. Whether you're consolidating after an acquisition or restructuring teams, Slack helps make the transition smoother.

Here’s how to get started.

  • Review user roles: Identify and align user permissions across workspaces to ensure everyone has the right level of access post-migration.
  • Map integrations: Track and plan how apps, workflows, and custom integrations will move with your users to minimize disruption to daily operations.
