Configure Hidden Plans and Settings

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Define the concept of hidden plans.
  • Navigate and use payout rule settings.

What Are Hidden Plans?

When you create a new plan, it’s automatically set to a Hidden Plan status. Hidden Plan is a feature that allows you to create an entire plan that is only visible to Salesforce Spiff finance and admin users. Use hidden plans to generate reports, experiment with new rules, or prepare a new plan ahead of time. No commission payouts calculated in hidden plans are visible to reps.

When a plan has been designated as hidden, an icon appears wherever that plan is referenced.

You can also have reps assigned to multiple plans, and any number of those can be hidden plans. Reps with extra hidden plans can’t see them when logging in to Salesforce Spiff. When you’re ready for the plan to go live to your reps, simply toggle the Hidden Plan off. This action immediately makes your plan visible to all reps assigned to that specific plan for applicable statement periods.

Note

When viewing the admin commission page, hidden plans show a $0.00 value for all reps.

You can see calculated payout rules for hidden plans by viewing a rep’s statement.

Payout Rule Settings

Trace View on Payout Rules

You can access the trace view on the Payout Rules page by clicking the Trace View Trace View button button. This view allows you to explore the underlying details of the payout rule by clicking on different fields within the rule.

Delete Plans

You can delete an entire plan using the menu in the left sidebar. Click the three dots at the end of the plan name, then select Delete Plan from the menu. Even if a plan is deleted, the payout rules associated with the plan are still be preserved.

Additional Options for Payout Rules

While on a plan, you can sort the rules alphanumerically. For example, if you prefer to arrange the rules in a particular order, you can prefix them with a number and then sort them in ascending order.

Use Payout Rules in Multiple Plans

Salesforce Spiff Designer includes the ability to use the same payout rule in multiple plans. On the Payout Rules page for your selected plan:

  1. Click + New Payout Rule.
  2. Type in the name of the rule you want to add.
  3. Select it to add the rule to plan.

You can also create a new payout rule for a plan using an existing payout amount field. Highlight the field being used as a payout amount.

  1. Under the PAYOUT RULE menu in the right sidebar, click Add Plan.
  2. Select the plan you want to assign the rule to.
  3. Add effective dates when necessary.

This is a great option to use when you have multiple plans commissioned the same way. There are a few things to be aware of when using payout rules on multiple plans.

  • Changing the calculation selected in the Payout Amount field on one plan changes that field for all plans.
  • When you change anything about the formula selected in the Payout Amount field—its logic, components, range table, and so on—it’s reflected in every plan. If you need to make changes in one plan but not the other, create a new payout rule.
  • Deleting a payout rule deletes it from all associated plans. If you don’t want to delete the payout rule from all plans, right-clicking the rule allows you to select Remove From Plan. If the Remove From Plan option is unavailable, that rule isn’t used anywhere else and can be safely deleted.

You now have a lot of tools at your disposal to create many different payout rules. Happy building!
