Define Your Outreach Task
Learning Objectives
After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:
- Describe the characteristics of a quick cadence.
- Recognize repeatable single-step outreach tasks.
Before You Start
Before you start this module, you should:
- Be familiar with the basic capabilities of Sales Cloud as outlined in Sales Cloud Basics.
- Consider completing Sales Engagement Basics for more insight into sales cadences.
Discover Quick Cadences
Ready to spend more time closing deals and less time on repetitive tasks? Quick cadences will help you do just that.
Many users have access to the quick cadences feature without the need for an add-on license. Quick cadences are available in Lightning Experience in Enterprise and Professional Editions with Sales Cloud, with or without Sales Engagement. Not all features included in Professional and Enterprise Editions are enabled automatically. In Setup, enable quick cadences and assign the permission to up to 100 users.
Before you begin, let’s recap some definitions you should know.
Term | What It Is |
---|---|
To Do List | A compilation of sortable sales tasks, which is accessed from the utility bar in Sales Cloud |
Sales Cadence | Repeatable sales actions directed toward buyers, often described as a series of touchpoints in the sales journey |
Quick cadences are great for scheduled reminders in your To Do List or Work Queue. Think of a quick cadence as a personal communication template. Create your quick cadence ahead of time, then assign a target whenever you need to. Here’s a refresher on cadence terminology.
- The cadence target is the lead, contact, or person account who will receive the call, email, or other communication.
- The target assignee is the person assigned to execute the call, email, or custom cadence step. For the quick cadences you create, that’s almost always you!
- The cadence step appears automatically in your To Do List or Work Queue.
Quick cadences differ from multi-step standard cadences.
- A quick cadence can be created by any Sales Engagement user, not just managers.
- A quick cadence includes a short, simple step rather than an involved series of steps.
Now, let’s explore a sampling of things you can accomplish with quick cadences.
Simplify Outreach Tasks
Add efficiency to your workflow by setting up a quick cadence for a sales step you want to repeat and remind yourself to take action on. Here are a few examples of efficient outreach tasks.
- Create an automated introduction email for new customers.
- Set a reminder to follow up on a stale opportunity with a phone call to a specific contact.
- Stay on-message during phone calls by using a script or checklist while you work through a list of call targets.
- Set a custom task as a reminder to send out tangible mail: samples, flyers, or anything in an envelope needing postage.
You create the cadence and set its parameters. Then, whenever you assign a lead, contact, or person account as the target for your quick cadence, the outreach step appears automatically in your To Do List or Work Queue. You can attach items to the cadence that appear with the task, for example, a personalized call script or email template. You can also set the cadence to repeat until the desired engagement occurs.
Quick cadences allow you to:
- Define when to take action by setting a start date or expected due date.
- Repeat the cadence step for a period of time or until you get the desired response.
- Add targets to your quick cadence manually from a record, list views, or directly within reports.
Use quick cadences to manage your sales processes and reduce time spent on the tedious part of repeatable tasks.
Take Action on Quick Cadence Tasks
The To Do List component offers advantages over the Work Queue. The To Do List combines all of your tasks in one place, and you can access it from the utility bar on any screen view. The Work Queue is only accessible from the Sales Engagement Console. The To Do List is generally available. If you don’t see it in the utility bar, ask your Salesforce admin to add it using App Manager.
Because quick cadences are steps you create yourself, each cadence step appears as a task in your To Do List. You have multiple options to complete the task immediately while working in your To Do List, or to use an expanded link option, for example, to manually write an email.
Access the To Do List from the utility bar on any screen view to open an overlay window and sort the list using filters and other options. For more detail on To Do List views, actions, and use, consult To Do List for Task Management in Trailhead.
