If you’re unsure which solution your organization uses, check with your Salesforce admin.

Before You Start

Before you start this module, consider completing the following recommended content.

Bring Your Fundraising Team Together

A fundraising team is like an orchestra: Everyone plays their part to make the beautiful music of your mission come to life.

In an orchestra, the flutes, trumpets, and drums must work in harmony. Similarly, you need your fundraising operations staff, mass-marketing fundraisers, high-touch fundraisers, and other roles working together toward the same goal—and, if possible, in the same system.

Nonprofit Cloud for Fundraising brings your entire fundraising team together in Salesforce with purpose-built tools for each role. With Fundraising, your entire team can nurture authentic relationships, practice data-driven fundraising, and boost efficiency and productivity.

And your fundraising team, program team, case managers, and outcome managers can all use the same system because Fundraising is part of Nonprofit Cloud. Imagine your whole nonprofit on one platform, and everyone has the tools to perform at their best. It’s like a conductor making sure all the different sections of the orchestra work together smoothly!

In this Quick Look, we cover the basic features of Fundraising. We review the apps for each role and discuss how Fundraising can increase your team’s efficiency.

Use the Right App for Your Role

While Fundraising can bring your entire team into one system, they don’t have to use just one interface. Fundraising includes four different apps that group common tasks and responsibilities for different roles.

  • The Fundraising Strategy app provides a high-level understanding of your fundraising data and your activities. Executives and fundraising managers can use it to check fundraising progress and plan for future fundraising efforts.
  • The Donor Engagement app helps mass-market fundraisers and campaign managers track and manage mass-market fundraising efforts. It compiles engagement data through campaigns, source codes, gift commitments, and reports to make managing outreach efforts fast and effective.
  • The Philanthropy & Partnerships app provides tools and information to cultivate and solicit large gifts. Your high-touch fundraisers and grant writers can research major donors and grantmakers and then track interactions and progress.
  • The Fundraising Operations app helps your team perform the essential tasks of fundraising. Gift processors can enter and process gifts, record donor commitments, and update or pause gift commitment schedules. Donor support officers get tools to track and respond to donor requests.

Increase Efficiency with Fundraising Tools

Across these apps, use the suite of tools included in Fundraising to realize increased efficiency in common fundraising tasks. Plus, a flexible data model helps you track donations of all kinds, such as simple cash gifts, multi-payment pledges, bequests, asset transfers, and in-kind gifts of goods.

Let’s review a few fundraising tasks and the tools and objects you can use.

Enter Single Gifts, Recurring Gifts, or Gifts in Batches

Each time your nonprofit receives a gift, it's likely that someone on your team has to manually record it in the system. With Gift Entry in Fundraising, they can quickly and accurately enter individual and recurring gifts, or they can create a batch and add several gifts at once. Automation for batch entry populates details about gift commitments, campaigns, gift designations, and more.

Create and Manage Campaigns

It can be difficult to track the dozens of outreach efforts your team runs each year to solicit gifts, engage donors, and raise awareness. The Source Code and Campaign objects in Fundraising combine several sources of data in one place to track and analyze your results for each effort.

Create and Manage Gift Commitments

The Gift Commitment object in Fundraising tracks gifts that have been promised but not yet paid—like a pledge, recurring donation, grant, or planned gift. Your team can create and schedule commitments, add default designations, and track ongoing gift transactions against a gift commitment.

Manage Large Gift Fundraising Portfolios

Large gift fundraising is all about developing individual relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporations. If your high-touch fundraisers don’t have a way to track those potential donors and relationships, you could miss critical funding. With Actionable Lists in Fundraising, you can create, manage, and assign ownership of donor portfolios to individual fundraisers. Those fundraisers can track tasks and relationships in a single view.

The My Major Giving Portfolio page shows details about each potential donor’s status and the sum of open opportunities related to the donor.
