Key Performance Indicators

Consumer goods manufacturers run product promotions to boost brand awareness, product visibility, and sales. Assessing the effectiveness of promotions is always important to the manufacturers because it helps them determine the optimal budget for upcoming promotions. You can evaluate promotion performance with the help of key performance indicators (KPI).

KPIs provide business performance information such as monetary, volume, or percentage measures. Trade Promotion Management in Salesforce Consumer Goods (CG) Cloud uses KPIs in calculations that help you understand how a promotion and account plan perform based on current inputs. For example, you can estimate promotion costs and sales, and analyze how effectively a promotion budget was used. A well-run promotion satisfies retailers and customers and helps manufacturers streamline their budgets.

In a consumer goods manufacturing company, key account managers (KAM) plan and monitor events or promotions.

KPI calculations help KAMs estimate the promotion cost and return on investment. They can then compare the planned figures with the actuals to determine the effectiveness of the promotion. KPIs store business performance information for key accounts and this data is stored for at least one year.

As a Salesforce admin, you set up KPI data export in CG Cloud. For example, you can perform data export to extract promotion and account plan data for usage in downstream systems.

KPI Data Exports

Use CG Cloud’s KPI export capabilities to export comma-separated values (CSV) files containing Trade Promotion Management KPI data. After exporting, you can share the data in multiple formats.

In CG Cloud, you can trigger CSV exports by making an Apex call. You can trigger up to five Apex calls simultaneously. You can also configure the CSV export integration metadata by adding new report configuration entries to the Real-Time Reporting (RTR) report configurations object.

KPI exports use the RTR report configurations object in CG Cloud. However, this is different from RTR configurations and functionality. For more information on RTR, check out Analyze Your Promotions with Real-Time Reporting.

Profit and Loss Data Downloads

The Promotion Profit and Loss (P&L) view in CG Cloud shows the weekly values of a promotion's KPIs for the promotion period and the total value for the entire promotion period. To configure the KPIs you want to show, associate a KPI set with the promotion template. A KPI set is a set of KPIs or measures that help evaluate promotions, account plans, funds, claims, and reporting. Depending on the usage of a KPI, add one or more KPIs to a KPI set.

KAMs can download promotion data as CSV files in CG Cloud and share the files with team members. To do this, enable data download in the Promotion P&L view. To download only the required data, filter the promotion P&L grid data first.

Data Is Important

When analyzing the effectiveness of a promotion, data is the most important asset for a KAM. In fact, data really powers everything that KAMs do in CG Cloud. Rummaging through dozens of spreadsheets to find the required data is a difficult task. KAMs need a bird’s eye view of their promotion data to understand past performance and make meaningful improvements to their strategies.

Exporting and downloading KPIs and promotion data help KAMs convert data to reusable formats and share them quickly and easily. After exporting, KAMs can use Trade Promotion Effectiveness dashboards to visualize the data.
