Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Sign Up for a Developer Edition Org with Consumer Goods (CG) Cloud.
  • Create an Action Launcher deployment.
  • Add an Action Launcher component to a page.

Consumer Goods Cloud at Your Service

So far you’ve explored the key features and components of Consumer Goods (CG) Cloud for Service. Next, you follow Fatima to sign up for a Developer Edition org and start setting up the service console.

About Developer Edition Orgs

A Developer Edition is a free, fully featured Salesforce org separate from your organization's Salesforce org. It's a place where you can experiment and try new things from a blank slate or special configuration. In this module, you sign up for a Developer Edition org that includes configured Consumer Goods Cloud for Service tools and features, plus sample data so you can start to experiment right away. Your special developer org includes the CG for Service app with required permissions and licenses.

Sign Up for a Developer Edition Org with CG Cloud

To complete this module, you need a special Developer Edition org that contains CG Cloud and our sample data. Get the free Developer Edition and connect it to Trailhead now so you can complete the challenges in this module. Note that this Developer Edition is designed to work with the challenges in this badge, and may not work for other badges. Always check that you’re using the Trailhead Playground or special Developer Edition org that we recommend.

  1. Sign up for a free Consumer Goods Cloud Developer Edition org.
  2. Fill out the form:
    • For Email, enter an active email address.
    • For Username, enter a username that looks like an email address and is unique, but it doesn't need to be a valid email account (for example, yourname@example.com).
  3. After you fill out the form, click Sign me up. A confirmation message appears.
  4. When you receive the activation email (this might take a few minutes), open it and click Verify Account.
  5. Complete your registration by setting your password and challenge question. Tip: Save your username, password, and login URL in a secure place—such as a password manager—for easy access later.
  6. You’re logged in to your Developer Edition.

Now connect your new Developer Edition org to Trailhead.

  1. Make sure you're logged in to your Trailhead account.
  2. In the Challenge section at the bottom of this page, click the org name and then click Connect Org.
  3. On the login screen, enter the username and password for the Developer Edition you just set up.
  4. On the Allow Access? screen click Allow.
  5. On the Want to connect this org for hands-on challenges? screen click Yes! Save it. You’re redirected back to the challenge page and ready to use your new Developer Edition to earn this badge.

Configure the Consumer Goods Cloud for Service App

You can use the Lightning App Builder to configure and customize the app, or you can create another app if needed. For example, you can show and hide certain tabs, as well as tailor the fields that service agents can view. To learn more, see Customize Your Consumer Goods Cloud for Service App.

It’s time for Fatima to modify the default Service Excellence Account lightning record page, which is the service console. Here’s how it looks before she adds components.

A quick look at how the service console appears before configuring it.

The service console comes with some default components like the profile cards of customers and stores, timeline, and advanced orders sections. Next, to customize the console, Fatima adds an Action Launcher component.

Configure the Action Launcher Component

Action Launcher helps service agents resolve customer requests and issues quickly to deliver the best customer service. You make actions available using this component so that service agents can easily search for and launch different actions. For example, they can initiate a fee-reversal flow or launch a service-order action. Once Action Launcher is set up, users can search for and launch the actions in that deployment.

Now it’s time to use your Developer Edition org to create an Action Launcher deployment and add the Action Launcher component to the service console. This way, users can launch actions at runtime.

Ensure that you’re logged into your org to complete the step-by-step practice and the hands-on challenge at the end of the units.

Create an Action Launcher Deployment

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Action Launcher, and then select Deployments.
  2. Click New Deployment and then click Next.
  3. Specify these details:
    • Label: My Action Launcher
    • API Name: Auto-populates with MyActionLauncher
  4. In Guidance to Show, ensure that the Buttons, flows, links, and quick actions checkbox is selected, and click Next.
  5. Select the following objects:
    • Account
    • Case
  6. Click Next.
  7. Deselect the checkbox next to the Action Label column header to clear all the selections.
  8. Find and select the New Case action.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Click the plus icon for the New Case action.
  11. Save your work.
  12. Close the New Deployment window.

Add the Action Launcher Component to a Page

To make the Action Launcher component available to service agents, you’ll add the component to the appropriate record page and select the deployment you created earlier.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter App Builder, and then select Lightning App Builder.
  2. Find the lightning pages labeled Service Excellence Account. There are three different pages named Service_Excellence_Account, Service_Excellence_Account1, and Service_Excellence_Account2.
  3. Click Edit next to the page named Service_Excellence_Account2.
  4. From the component palette, drag an Action Launcher component into the center of the canvas. Don’t drag it into the Add Components Here box, because it won’t be in the right spot. When placed correctly, the Action Launcher should be at the top of the page, in the center, with the Details tab below it. In the properties pane, Action Launcher Configuration is automatically populated with ‘Action Launcher deployment’.
  5. Click in the Action Launcher Deployment field and select My Action Launcher.
  6. Save your changes.
  7. Click Activation and then click the APP DEFAULT tab.
  8. Make sure the CG for Service app is listed under Assignments, which means it’s the app default. This also automatically activates the component. If CG for Service isn’t listed, click Assign as App Default and select CG for Service from the list of lightning apps. Then click Next and save your changes.
  9. Close the window.
Note

Important: Retain the App Default

When you complete the hands-on challenge at the end of the unit, be sure to keep CG for Service as the app default.

Now, with the new Action Launcher added to the deployment, service agents can use it from their service console to create a new case.

The service console with the Action Launcher component added.

To learn more about the action launcher, see Add the Action Launcher Component to a Page.

At the end of this unit, you complete the hands-on challenge in your Developer Edition org, but first, a few words about record alerts.

Configure Record Alerts

Record alerts notify service agents about which records need their attention so they can take action. You can set up alerts for payment issues, order delays, open cases, and more. To display record alerts on the service console, add the Record Alert component to the record page. For more information, see Set Up Record Alerts.

In this unit, you learned how to create an Action Launcher deployment and add the Action Launcher component to a page. But service agents do much more than just create cases. They add value to the business by being brand advocates, maintaining customer loyalty, and increasing business reputation. To this end, Fatima plans to eventually tailor the CG Cloud for Service app especially for her service agents. But that’s a project for another day. For now, she focuses on testing Action Launcher.

Now, use your Developer Edition org to complete the hands-on challenge. In the next unit, you create a case with the Action Launcher to validate your work.
