Get Started with the Consumer Goods Cloud Offline Mobile App

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Sign up for a Developer Edition Org with Consumer Goods (CG) Cloud.
  • Configure user credentials to access the CG Cloud offline mobile app.

Before You Start

Before you start this module, consider completing the following recommended content.

In addition, you must have access to a mobile device that lets you install and use the Consumer Goods Cloud offline mobile app. For more information on device requirements, see Requirements for Installing the Consumer Goods Cloud Offline Mobile App.

You can only do the challenges, obtain the points, and earn the badge with these technical requirements in place.

Power Up Your Field Activities

If you see someone running around to several grocery stores in the San Francisco Bay Area every day, there’s a good chance it’s Chantelle Johnson. Yes, it’s true—Chantelle’s always on the move. She’s a busy field sales rep for Alpine Group Nutrition and Beverage.

Chantelle’s boss Gustavo, sales manager at Alpine Group, handles the sales of snacks and beverages to customers across the USA. One such customer is Northern Trail Outfitters (NTO), a large chain of stores and trade organizations.

Every day, Chantelle visits five NTO retail stores in the Bay Area to conduct store audits. The work keeps Chantelle on her toes, and she’s always pressed for time. Store audits are important for collecting data to ensure sales efficacy and promotional compliance.

Some stores have poor internet connectivity, making it difficult for Chantelle to record her findings on her handheld mobile device. Whenever she catches her breath, she sighs and longs for an easier way to manage her field activities.

Chantelle, meet Advanced Activity Management.

The solution gives her a simple and effective way to conduct store audits, point-of-sale (POS) audits, and product surveys using the CG Cloud offline mobile app.

An empathetic leader, Gustavo’s aware of Chantelle’s challenges and wants all his field reps to be successful and efficient. With help from Fatima Daniels, the admin at Alpine Group, he sets up Advanced Activity Management for the CG Cloud offline mobile app. Once the app is ready, Gustavo shows Chantelle how to use it.

Chantelle’s ecstatic when she learns about Advanced Activity Management. It’s exactly what she needs, and it's going to make her life so much easier. She can't wait to show up for her next NTO store visit, app in hand, ready to breeze through her audits and surveys.

Fatima has already set up the offline mobile app for Chantelle and provided her with the proper license and permission sets. So Chantelle can just log in and start using it. Later in the module, you follow along as she conducts store audits and completes product surveys with the app.

Sign Up for a Developer Edition Org with Consumer Goods Cloud

To complete this module, you need a special Developer Edition org that contains Consumer Goods Cloud and our sample data. Get the free Developer Edition and connect it to Trailhead now so you can complete the challenges in this module. Note that this Developer Edition is designed to work with the challenges in this badge, and may not work for other badges. Always check that you’re using the Trailhead Playground or special Developer Edition org that we recommend.

  1. Sign up for a free Consumer Goods Cloud Developer Edition org.
  2. Fill out the form.
    • For Email, enter an active email address.
    • For Username, enter a username that looks like an email address and is unique, but it doesn't need to be a valid email account (for example, yourname@example.com).
  1. After you fill out the form, click Sign me up. A confirmation message appears.
  2. When you receive the activation email (this might take a few minutes), open it and click Verify Account.
  3. Complete your registration by setting your password and challenge question.
Tip: Write down your username, password, and login URL for easy access later. You’ll also need the answer to your security question later on.
  4. You’re logged in to your Developer Edition.

Now connect your new Developer Edition org to Trailhead.

  1. Make sure you're logged in to your Trailhead account.
  2. In the Challenge section at the bottom of this page, click the playground name and then click Connect Org.
  3. On the login screen, enter the username and password for the Developer Edition you just set up.
  4. On the Allow Access? screen, click Allow.
  5. On the Want to connect this org for hands-on challenges? screen, click Yes! Save it. You’re redirected back to the challenge page and ready to use your new Developer Edition to earn this badge.

Set Up Your Business User

In this module, we assume your Salesforce admin has already set up your user profile in CG Cloud and created activities for you. If they’ve not done this already, follow the steps in Advanced Activity Management Setup in Consumer Goods Cloud to ensure that your profile is set up properly and that you have activities to manage.

We've already created the business user Chantelle Johnson in your Developer Edition org, so you can use Chantelle’s credentials to log into the mobile app. Alternatively, your admin can create additional business users, and you can use their credentials.

Either way, keep in mind that you need two sets of login details: one to access your Developer Edition org as an admin and another set of credentials to use the CG Cloud offline mobile app.

Note

Before you download the offline mobile app, make sure you’ve completed the following procedures:

  • Create a Connected App
  • Update the Publishing Date for the Deployment Package Assignment
  • Find Your Business User Login Credentials

Create a Connected App

In your developer edition org, create a connected app to enable the CG Cloud offline mobile app to integrate with Salesforce via APIs. To create the connected app, follow the steps described in Create a Connected App.

Update the Publishing Date for the Deployment Package Assignment

When you create a Developer Edition org, CG Cloud creates a deployment package so you can customize the CG Cloud offline mobile app. You have to change the publishing date of the deployment package assignment to a date in the past. This ensures that the package is already deployed when you try to install the CG Cloud offline mobile app.

  1. Click App Launcher.
  2. Find and select Sync Management.
  3. Click Deployment Packages. The Recently Viewed list view is shown by default.
  4. Change the list view to All. The deployment package appears in the list.
  5. Click the Package Id to open the package. The Deployment Package page showing the options to open a deployment package assignment.
  6. In the Deployment Package Assignment component, click the link to open the deployment package assignment. The Deployment Package Assignment page showing the options to update a deployment package assignment.
  7. Edit the publishing date to specify any date in the past.
  8. Click Save.

Find Your Business User Login Credentials

Next, complete the following steps to find your business user username and reset your password.

  1. Click Setup, and under ADMINISTRATION, expand Users.
  2. Click Users.
  3. In the Action column, click Edit for any business user, for example, Johnson, Chantelle.
  4. Make note of the username. Alternatively, you can modify the username to make it shorter and easier to use, but it should look like an email address. For example, change the username to cj2023@example.com or something else unique. This becomes your business username for logging into the CG Cloud mobile app later on.
  5. For the same user, edit the details to replace Email with your email address. This way you can receive the password-reset email.
  6. Scroll down to Approver Settings, and select Generate new password and notify user immediately.
  7. Click Save. You should receive an email with the subject: Finish resetting your password and changing your Salesforce.com account’s email address.
  8. Click the link in the email. The Salesforce Change Your Password dialog opens.
  9. Enter a new password. This becomes your password for logging into the CG Cloud mobile app.
  10. Click Continue to proceed to Salesforce.
